Nippon Ichi Software, the creators of the famous Disgaea strategy/RPG series and Japanese parent company of publisher NIS America, have revealed a new website for an upcoming title announcement. There are very few words on the website, nor is there a title. Instead, visitors are treated to what looks like grainy security camera footage of a pixel-art warehouse. The footage has been changing daily, but archives of the previous days' videos are available on Youtube — and they are extremely creepy, showing a young girl who appears to be doing something with what might be a dead body.
The second video shows brief glimpses of artwork portraying a young woman who appears to have several wires connected to her right arm. The final piece of footage, revealed yesterday, shows what could be the game's Japanese title, Asatsugutori, alongside shadowed silhouettes of several young female characters and a date of August 5, suggesting that a full reveal of the game will be coming on that date. Little else is known about this mysterious title, though the framing of the teasers and the deliberate lack of information suggests some sort of modern-day horror-themed game.

While Nippon Ichi Software is best known for their strategy/RPG games like the Disgaea series (the latest of which, Disgaea 6, is now available on Switch) and localizing entries in the long-running Ys action-RPG series, they also develop and publish numerous smaller, more experimental titles across a variety of genres. Examples include platformer/rhythm game Mad Rat Dead, action-puzzle game The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince, sci-fi roguelike Void Terrarium, and text adventure The Silver Case. While many of their games have been localized through their North American and European publishing branch NIS America, not all games make the journey overseas, and at this point it's impossible to say whether this mystery title will be among those sailing to our shores.
Asatsugutori — if that is the game's actual title — certainly looks like it could be a retro-styled horror-adventure game in the vein of games like Corpse Party, but we won't know for a little while longer yet. Whatever this game winds up being, the trailers definitely leave us disturbed and intrigued, so they have certainly succeeded in capturing our interest.
