Does Glitchpunk Have Controller Support

Glitchpunk looks like an old-school Grand Theft Auto adventure, and that’s because indie developer Dark Lord created it to emulate old top-down perspective games like the early GTA titles.

It’s still in early access, so not every feature has been included yet. This includes Glitchpunk relying on a manual save system. While this is how save data was handled in games like Grand Theft Auto 2, it’s very inconvenient for modern players not to have access to an autosave feature.

As well as autosaves, a feature a lot of PC players would like from Glitchpunk is controller support. The required specs to play the indie title aren’t that high, so a lot of casual PC owners who prefer using a gamepad might be more interested in trying it out if they could use a controller.

Glitchpunk does not have native controller support at the moment, but it is available to play on a gamepad through the Steam Controller configuration.

Steam supported controllers need to be connected through Bluetooth or a usb cable. Once that is done, players can start using their favourite gamepad to cause as much destruction in New Baltia as possible. As Glitchpunk does not have native support yet, the prompts and controls in the settings menu will still appear as mouse-and-keyboard.

Players can refer to this guide to see what each button does while playing with a gamepad. The buttons will be referred to in Xbox/PlayStation terms, but the corresponding buttons will work with any supported controller.

To drive with the left analog stick, players must always have it pointing up, no matter what direction the vehicle is moving on screen. A slight adjustment should then be made in the direction players want to turn.

Although driving is possible with a controller, it is very hard to navigate. Players will have an easier time using the WASD keys while they’re in a vehicle if they don't want to smash into every police car on their way to another contract.

Developer Dark Lord has confirmed that Glitchpunk will eventually receive controller support during early access. There’s even a greyed-out toggle for controller prompts in the settings, hopefully indicating this feature will be added sooner rather than later.

Glitchpunk is out now on early access for PC.
