Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has done a good job at adapting Goku’s various adventures through Dragon Ball Z. However, one of Goku’s more recent adventures that involve Golden Frieza will soon be coming to the game via DLC.
While this form did appear in Dragon Ball: Super, both Golden Frieza and Goku’s Super Saiyan Blue originally appeared in the 2015 movie, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F. It serves as a sequel to the 2013 movie, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. This doesn’t mean it’s not Super content, per se, as it all ties together.

The events of Resurrection F might be adapted into Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, so some fans may want to know what to expect before buying the DLC without sitting through all an entire movie. In such a case, here are the events of Resurrection F that led to the brand new forms coming as DLC.
The movie begins right after Battle of Gods. Because of Frieza being trapped in Hell after dying in Dragon Ball Z, his minions take the time to collect all of the Dragon Balls in order to revive him. However, Shenron is unable to completely revive him, causing Frieza to require technical enhancements.
After Frieza regenerates into his first form, he demands to his underlings that he wants both Goku and Future Trunks dead for their defeat of him in the past. While his soldiers warn Frieza that Goku has gotten even more powerful since they last fought, Frieza devotes himself to training for several months in order to kill him.
The first person on Earth to be warned of Frieza’s return is Bulma, who is told by Jaco the Galactic Patrolman. Since Goku and Vegeta traveled to Beerus’ Planet to train at the end of Battle of Gods, the two aren’t on Earth to stop Frieza. Bulma attempts to contact them, but fails to get a response.
In order to have someone hold Frieza off until Goku and Vegeta realize Frieza has returned, Bulma contacts the rest of Earth’s heroes for help. However, a few are unable to help due to various circumstances. This includes Trunks and Goten, who weren’t told for their safety; Yamcha and Chiaotzu, who were told to stay away out of fear; and Good Buu, who is hibernating. This leaves Gohan, Piccolo, Tien Shinhan, Jaco, Krillin, and Master Roshi to fight off Frieza’s massive army.
After all the soldiers are fought off by the team, Frieza kills everyone under him for their failure. He then knocks out Gohan with a single blow in his first form, showing how much more powerful he has become.
Bulma’s message finally makes it to Goku and Vegeta, who travel to Earth to defeat Frieza one more time. Beerus and Whis also come with them to eat the dessert that Bulma made to contact them in the first place.
Frieza immediately skips to his final form to fight Goku, but Goku shakes off Frieza’s attacks easily without even needing to go Super Saiyan. This greatly angers Frieza and causes him to fight with more anger before Vegeta joins the fight to punch Goku due to “Goku not taking turns.” The two begin to spar in front of Frieza who is amused by the two fighting over him.

Despite everything, Frieza compliments Goku on how more powerful he’s gotten while also revealing how he has something he’s been holding back. Goku is excited by a new challenge and is happy to see what Frieza has waiting for him. Frieza also points out that Goku has been holding back as well, causing Goku to reveal his new power, Super Saiyan Blue. Frieza than reveals his new Golden Form.
As Frieza transforms, the ground below him completely shatters away into the ocean, showing how much more powerful it is compared to his other forms from the past. With both of them transformed, the two begin to fight for real.
The true fight finally begins with Frieza destroying a lot of the environment around Goku as a show of power. Much of the fight is done over the ocean as the two send out blasts of energy in between flurries of punches and kicks. The rest of the team watches as the two fight between each other. However, Frieza is shocked to see Beerus present on Earth, but Beerus assures Frieza that he isn’t there to get in the way of the battle.
Goku points out that Frieza is burning through a lot of energy in his new form, so Frieza assures Goku that he’ll kill him quickly instead. The two continue to battle with Frieza even being hit into the ocean, but he is further angered by Goku’s mercy that offers Frieza to leave Earth and recover. However, Goku is shot down in the chest by one of Frieza’s remaining soldiers, knocking him out of Super Saiyan Blue. This knocks Goku down completely, causing Frieza to start kicking Goku’s weakened body.
Vegeta begins to approach the two, causing Frieza to offer Vegeta the chance to kill Goku himself. However, Vegeta refuses the offer even when Frieza adds to it. He tells Krillin to bring Goku a Sensu Bean and intervenes when Frieza attempts to kill Krillin.
Vegeta takes on the mantle to fight Frieza himself and reveals his own Super Saiyan Blue form in front of Frieza, shocking him. Due to Frieza’s weakened state from fighting Goku earlier, he is easily taken down and reverted back to his previous form. The battle almost ends with Vegeta executing Frieza with an energy blast to the head, but Frieza refuses to accept defeat. Out of pure spite, Frieza uses the last of his power to completely destroy the Earth with Vegeta dying in the process.
Everyone else who was present for the battle survive due to Whis and Beerus creating a bubble around themselves, but everyone is left in despair and shock over the Earth no longer existing. However, Whis reminds the group that he has the ability to turn back time by three minutes, so the group accepts his offer.
Time is turned back to right before Frieza destroys the Earth with Goku killing Frieza with a God Kamehameha before he is successful. The movie ends with Frieza returning to hell and being tormented by the Angels of Hell once more.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
