The indie game Dragon’s Wandering Tavern has officially unveiled its reveal trailer–not to be confused with its slightly longer announcement trailer–and it continues to look absolutely stunning. This upcoming title is based around a very unorthodox concept: what if you could create a peaceful roguelite?
In this game, you’ll take on the role of Dangoru the Dragon Merchant and explore a constantly shifting, magical forest inspired by Studio Ghibli films and filled with fantastical inhabitants. You’ll gather resources and trade with other characters in order to craft enchanted items, brew potions, and cook delicious meals for your forest friends.
As time passes, you’ll gather up a quirky–and often very fluffy–family of adorable creatures who will join you on your adventure. And unlike most roguelikes, it’s very unlikely that there will be any combat, giving people who dislike that sort of thing a chance to experience roguelike mechanics.
Game features will include:
- Explore a fantastical, ever-shifting forest full of secrets.
- Befriend and journey with the forest’s quirky creatures and send them on quests.
- Gather resources, find recipes, craft magical items and potions.
- Make delicious meals in your babbling cauldron!
- Talk to and build relationships with fantastical forest-dwellers to help them heal and rebuild the woods.
- Re-establish trade and commerce in the forest.
- Unlock secrets of the forest with the Shard of Elderlight.
- Discover the history of the Wandering Forest.
According to a recent announcement on the game’s Discord channel, the developers are hard at work on a demo they plan to have out by early October. If you’re interested, you can sign up for beta testing by joining the official Discord channel and agreeing to the rules, then clicking the waving hand icon under the message in the #welcome channel. After that, you’ll be able to access the #beta-signup channel and fill out the Beta sign-up form.
Dragon’s Wandering Tavern will be available for PC in Q4 2021. It can now be wishlisted on Steam.
