EA Clarifies No Activation Limit For FIFA 22 On PC

PC gamers can breathe a sigh of relief after yesterday’s alarming FIFA 22 news. According to a statement made by EA to Eurogamer, there will not, in fact, be a one machine activation limit for the game on PC.

This correction comes after fans spotted a concerning line on FIFA 22’s Steam page, which stated that there would be an activation limit of one per machine. The discovery was understandably followed by a great deal of backlash. Not only would such a restriction be ludicrous according to modern gaming standards, it would serve as another blow to PC users after finding out FIFA 22 on PC wouldn’t be getting the next-gen features available on PS5 and Xbox Series X. One of those features is the new HyperMotion technology, which utilizes machine learning to create a hyper-realistic experience.

Fortunately, though, it appears that at least the activation limit was just a scare. EA has clarified that the message was an error and apologized for the confusion it caused. FIFA 22’s Steam page now shows no such message, nor record of it ever being there. If only the next-gen features could be added as easily as that error disappeared from existence.

For those intending to play FIFA 22 on a console, it’s important to be aware that the game will be available on both next-gen and last-gen systems. However, anyone purchasing the game for a last-gen system will need to pay an additional $40 for the Ultimate Edition in order to get a free next-gen upgrade. Notably, this has not been the norm for other cross-gen games.

Although it’s great to hear that there won’t be any activation limit, it’s still totally reasonable to be peeved about the lack of next-gen features on PC and the higher price tag for a next-gen upgrade on older consoles. Such inconveniences can make all the difference when separating the good games from the great.
