Elden Ring will let players fast-travel from any point on the map, implying that it'll be a lot more open than previous FromSoftware titles.
Several game outlets saw a 16-minute gameplay demo of Elden Ring, which means that details on the game have started trickling out, including a few of its unique gameplay features, and how it has evolved from other FromSoftware games.

Details from the previews were collected together by Nibellion, who Tweeted some of the highlights. One of the biggest changes being made to the formula is the ability to fast travel from any point in the world. Previous FromSoftware games have allowed players to travel from specific locations, usually through Bonfires, but this seems like it'll make the game much more open and change things up considerably.
Some of the other interesting details to come from the previews include the fact that the game will have multiple paths and endings, as well as lots of optional encounters. The game will also seemingly have a lot of lore, which shouldn't be too much of a surprise considering whose behind it.
The previews also highlighted some gameplay features, including the fact that magicians and archers can fight from horseback and that there are "Legacy Dungeons" that are separate from the overworld's own dungeons. Sekiro appears to have had some influence as well, as it will apparently have some stealth features that are very reminiscent of that game.
One of the new features that was also highlighted is the inclusion of a new mechanic. The "Guard Counter" will apparently allow you to strike after a normal block, although that attack can apparently be countered. The footage also confirmed that enemies can be staggered.
For those worried about the game seeing a delay, Geoff Keighley got to see the footage and Tweeted, "Game is on track for January 21, 2022 release". Some were worried that all the shifting dates would mean that Elden Ring would be the next big game to see a delay.
