Going head to head recently in a bitter legal war, Epic Games’ current battle with both Apple and Google has quickly led to an unprecedentedly public spat between some of the biggest names in the tech and gaming industry. In turn, Fortnite has been forcibly removed from both companies’ storefronts, leaving a lot of the game’s users confused as to what the status and future of the title will be on mobile devices.
It seems Epic Games wants to assure players that it will still be offering the mobile version of Fortnite for fans on Android platforms, sending an email to those who’ve downloaded the game through Google Play that better explains what happens next. According to the publisher, Fortnite will still be playable through the Epic Games Store Android app, which can be accessed by going to Fortnite.com/Android.

Going to the site will offer players a QR code which, once scanned, will take them to a link to download either the Epic Games Store app or the game itself courtesy of the Samsung Galaxy storefront. Interestingly, Epic also details what players who still own Fortnite on the Google Play Store can expect to discover when they launch the game, with the company claiming that they can continue to play the previous update. However, they won’t be able to play Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 4 and it seems they won’t be able to amass any further progression either.
It seems they’ll also be unable to buy any new cosmetics, complete challenges, or send gifts, while duos, limited-time events, and battle lab are all also going to be cut for Google Play users. All things considered, it seems wise for current players to make the jump to the Epic Games Store app or Samsung Galaxy’s storefront if they want access to the full Fortnite experience.
For those unfamiliar with Epic Games Store’s recent feud with Apple and Google, the conflict started after the company began to bypass both storefront’s payment systems, essentially cutting them out of the game’s stream of revenue. Fortnite was quickly pulled from both app stores, which angered Epic Games, resulting in them posting a parody advertisement of Apple’s iconic 1984 ad asking for support in its battle against the giant tech mainstay. The resulting feud has been deemed incredibly immoral by many, with critics rightly pointing out that Epic Games is a billion-dollar company trying to weaponize its young fans into fighting back against an equally large corporate giant. Hopefully, the conflict will conclude sooner rather than later.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Android, with PS5 and Xbox Series X support planned for later this year.
