Codemasters continues to have issues with F1 2021 on PS5, revealing via the latest patch that 3D audio is currently unavailable.
F1 2021 launched on various platforms last month, marking the first major installment in the series since EA acquired its studio, Codemasters. Despite the change in price in most parts of the world, the newest F1 game appears to be performing well on the sales front. It knocked Skyward Sword HD off the top spot a couple of weeks ago in the UK physical charts and has remained there ever since.
Performance-wise, Codemasters continues to iron out what are some pretty major issues, at least on PS5. Last month it was forced to disable ray-tracing on PS5 due to issues with the feature. The good news is F1 2021's 1.06 patch is here and ray tracing has been fixed on PS5. However, the same patch has also disabled 3D audio on PS5 due to a new issue.

Codemasters' patch notes are somewhat vague as to why 3D audio isn't working as it should be right now. It cites nothing other than “audio issues” as the reason for disabling the feature. However, players on Reddit (via Euorgamer) appear to have been having problems with the volume of other cars' engines. That they are so loud when wearing the PS5's headphones you are unable to hear your own car.
Whether that's the problem or not, the good news is you probably won't have to wait very long for it to be fixed. Codemasters didn't hang around when it came to fixing ray-tracing and hopefully, the same workrate will be applied to working out what's wrong with 3D audio on the PS5 version of the game. As for F1 2021 on other platforms, as was the case with ray-tracing, they don't appear to have any major issues.
A pretty major update being rolled out on PS5 right now will have F1 2021's creators wanting to fix the issue as quickly as possible. Until now, the console's 3D audio could only be used using headphones. However, you should now be able to utilize it through regular old TV speakers if you have the update.
