FIFA 22 Trailer Shows Off New Hypermotion Technology

As expected, the trailer for EA Sports’ FIFA 22 debuted this morning offering fans their first look at a new entry in one of the best-selling series in games. While the trailer didn’t offer a ton of information on the game – that will be revealed at EA Play Live later this month – it did offer a first look at the new gameplay technology used in the game: HyperMotion.

The new trailer, which you can check out below, showcased an actual soccer match interspersed with one created in the game. As the players and their game counterparts weave through the field, kicking the ball and darting between players, the trailer announces that the game engine footage has been simulated by the new HyperMotion technology. Honestly, the transition is so smooth, it can be difficult to tell exactly where the game begins and real-life ends.

According to a press release from EA, HyperMotion technology brings the most realistic and immersive gameplay experience. The game, completely powered by the new technology, will combine “Advanced 11×11 Match Capture and proprietary machine learning technology to deliver the most realistic, fluid, and responsive experience” for next-gen consoles. With HyperMotion, EA was able to integrate the first-ever motion capture of 22 professionals playing at high intensity. Additionally, EA’s proprietary machine learning algorithm “learns from more than 8.7 million frames of advanced match capture, then writes new animations in real time to create organic football movement across a variety of interactions on the pitch.” This means that no matter what the players are doing on the field, HyperMotion can transform how they move.

While FIFA 22 will release on both next-gen and previous-gen consoles, this new HyperMotion technology will only be available on next-gen systems, including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia. If you plan on diving into FIFA 22, the HyperMotion technology may be worth upgrading your system as it completely revolutionizes the gameplay. Beyond the HyperMotion technology, this new entry promises a complete goalkeeper system rebuild, an all-new Create a Club experience in Career Mode, reimagined gameplay in Volta Football, and the introduction of FIFA Ultimate Team Heroes.

FIFA 22 is expected to release worldwide on October 1 with pre-orders available now.
