Fifa 22 Will Also Launch On Last-Gen

0

Yesterday's FIFA 22 reveal trailer confirmed that EA's latest sports game will be releasing on last-gen consoles as well as PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

However, while you will be able to play on the older hardware, it won't support the new HyperMotion technology shown off in that aforementioned trailer. For context, HyperMotion combines "Advanced 11×11 Match Capture and proprietary machine learning technology to deliver the most realistic, fluid, and responsive experience." With this, EA has integrated motion capture of 22 professional football players with the algorithm learning "From more than 8.7 million frames of advanced match capture, [writing] new animations in real-time to create organic football movement across a variety of interactions on the pitch."

HyperMotion also won't be supported for PC. On the store page, the PS5 description stated, "Powered by Football™, EA SPORTS™ FIFA 22 brings the game even closer to the real thing with a new season of innovation across every mode and groundbreaking next-gen HyperMotion gameplay technology on PlayStation®5 that elevates every moment of the match." This is separate from the "PS4 & PC" description that is bundled together which does not mention HyperMotion whatsoever.

That being said, if you have Google Stadia, you will be able to play the next-gen version of FIFA 22. If you're eager to try out the new HyperMotion technology but don't have a console, then that's your best bet. Whether the upgrade will come to PC in the future hasn't been clarified by EA.

If you purchase the game on PlayStation 4, you will need the 'Ultimate Edition' for $99.99 to gain access to "Dual Entitlement" which is a PlayStation 5 upgrade meaning that, if you do get next-gen consoles at any point, you will be able to play with the new features such as HyperMotion. You will also get a FUT Heroes Player item, Ones to Watch Player item, access to the game four days early, and 4,600 FIFA points. Otherwise, the standard edition is $59.99 for PS4. It is another $10 for PS5.

FIFA 22 launches on October 1, 2021.
