Final Fantasy 14 Breaks Steam Concurrent Player Record

Final Fantasy 14, has broken its concurrent player count on Steam. According to SteamDB, the player count peaked at 47,542. The weird thing about this is that there’s no new addition or event that has caused this spike.

The next major update coming to Final Fantasy 14 will be the Endwalker expansion, but that’s not out till November. The previous concurrent player record stood at 41,200, which came during the Shadowbringers expansion.

According to PCGamer, the player spike could be attributed to World of Warcraft streamers and players. Apparently, major WoW streamers like Asmongold have decided to get onto Final Fantasy 14 thanks to the long lull period in WoW. The Chains of Domination update only went live recently, but it was a long wait for players and streamers.

It seems that Final Fantasy 14 has caught the eye of a number of WoW players. It will be interesting to see how many of them go back to the game thanks to the new update, and how many decide to make the move to Final Fantasy 14 a permanent one.

Final Fantasy 14 is filled with memorable sidequests, Save the Queen: Blades of Gunnhildr being one of them. The quest tasks players with helping the Bozjan Resistance against the 4th Imperial Legion to liberate the land of Bozja. As a reward, players would get a new multi-arc quest and a Resistance weapon.

However, the Save the Queen questline still had some loose ends, which players hoped would be tied up in another expansion. Unfortunately, it seems like the questline is officially over according to a tweet by writer Yasumi Matsuno, who said so in a reply to a question about the quest.

The WoW Chains of Domination expansion does have a lot to offer though. It picks up right after the Castle Nathria raid, as Sire Denathrius is defeated. Players will enter the Jailer’s realm to stop his nefarious plans to destroy all life. Korthia, the City of Secrets can also be explored as you are sent deeper into the Maw. The new campaign involves the four Covenants joining forces to launch a massive assault on the Jailer.
