Relic Weapons are a staple of Final Fantasy 14, and the Shadowbringers expansion has continued that trend with Resistance Weapons. These shiny status-icons are currently the best weapons in the game, but this will soon change when Endwalker releases. Crafting Relic Weapons was never really about the stats though, right? If you're up for the grind, these weapons are definitely worth it.

If this is your first time crafting a Relic Weapon in Final Fantasy 14, worry not. Although it may seem like a daunting task, the Resistance Weapon is actually one of the easier Relic Weapons to craft. Let's take a look at each step in the questline, what materials you'll need to gather, and the best ways of doing so.
Before You Begin
The Resistance Weapon questline's story runs parallel to the Save the Queen: Blade of Gunnhildr questline. This means that, while crafting your Resistance Weapon, weapon-related quests and Bozjan Resistance storyline quests are mandatory, as is increasing your Resistance Rank in the Bozjan Southern Front and Zadnor.
In this guide, we will focus on the repeatable quests that require you to gather and turn in materials for upgrading your Resistance Weapon. You will have to complete story quests in between, but these only have to be done once. Each step in the quest will have the pre-requisite story quests you'll need to have done listed alongside them. Additionally, below are the quests you'll need to finish before you can start the first quest in the questline.
Save the Queen: Blade of Gunnhildr Questline Pre-requisites
- Complete the Main Scenario Quest 'Shadowbringers'
- Complete the quest 'The City of Lost Angels'
Once you have met the pre-requisites conditions, you can start the Save the Queen questline with the quest 'Hail to the Queen,' which you can pick up from Keiten in Kugane (x:12.2, y:12.3).
Complete the Quest 'Resistance is (Not) Futile'
-
Pre-requisites:
- Complete the quest 'Hail to the Queen'
- Complete the quest 'Path to the Past'
- Complete the quest 'The Bozja Incident'
- Complete the quest 'Fire in the Forge'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
While not technically the first quest in the Resistance Weapon questline, this is where you will begin again, should you choose to craft an additional Resistance Weapon. This is also the first step where you will have to actually gather something. Completing this quest will reward you with the base version of your job's Resistance Weapon.
This quest is a repeatable version of the quest you just completed, 'Fire in the Forge.' To complete these quests, you simply need to bring four Thavnairian Scalepowder to Gerolt in Gangos. This item can be purchase from Auriana in Mor Dhona for 250 Tomestones of Poetics each, for a total of 1,000 Poetics to complete this quest.
Reward:
- Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 485)
Complete the Quest 'For Want of a Memory'
-
Pre-requisites:
- Complete the quest 'Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty'
- Complete the quest 'Where Eagles Nest'
- Complete the quest 'A Sober Proposal'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
For this quest, you will need to gather a total of 60 Memories of the Dying. You will need 20 each of Tortured, Sorrowful, and Harrowing Memories of the Dying. These can be obtained by completing FATEs in the following Heavensward zones.
Memory | Location |
---|---|
Tortured Memory of the Dying | Sea of Clouds, Coerthas Western Highlands |
Sorrowful Memory of the Dying | Dravanian Forelands, Churning Mists |
Harrowing Memory of the Dying | Azys Lla, Dravanian Hinterlands |
Additionally, you will have a chance to receive any of these Memories of the Dying by completing Skirmishes and Critical Engagements in the Bozjan Southern Front. Each Memory drops in a different part of the Bozjan Southern Front; Tortured drop in the southern area, Sorrowful drop in the middle area, and Harrowing drop in the northern area.
The drop rate here is quite low compared to the 100% chance to receive a Memory of the Dying from Heavensward FATEs. Because of this, farming Heavensward FATEs is the preferred method for gathering these memories.
Rewards:
- Augmented Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 500)
Complete the Quest 'The Will to Resist'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
This quest will require you to gather six Bitter Memories of the Dying. These can be obtained in the following ways.
- Complete any Lv. 60 Dungeon
- Complete Duty Roulette: Leveling (once per day)
- Skirmishes and Critical Engagements in the Bozjan Southern Front (not guaranteed to drop)
Once again, the best place to gather these is actually outside of Bozja. We recommend completing Leveling Roulette, then grinding a few Lv. 60 Dungeons to quickly finish off this step.
Reward:
- Resistance Weapon Recollection (iLvl. 500)
Complete the Quest 'Change of Arms'
-
Pre-requisites:
- Complete the quest 'A Sign of What's to Come'
- Complete the quest 'Fit for a Queen'
- Complete the quest 'In the Queen's Image'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
Change of Arms will ask you to gather even more Memories. This time, you are looking for Loathsome Memories of the Dying, which can be obtained in the following ways.
- Labyrinth of the Ancients – rewards 1 Memory
- Syrcus Tower – rewards 1 Memory
- The World of Darkness – rewards 1 Memory
- Critical Engagements in the Bozjan Southern Front (chance to obtain 1 Memory)
- Castrum Lacus Litore – rewards 5 Memories
If you're able to consistently do Castrum Lacus Litore, this will be the best option for quickly completing this step. Otherwise, grinding in Labyrinth of the Ancients or Syrcus Tower is a fast option, too.
Reward:
- Law's Order Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 510)
Complete the Quest 'The Resistance Remembers'
-
NPC Location:
- Gerolt – Gangos (x:6.2, y:5)
This is a one-time quest that will require you to gather a total of 36 new Memories. You will need 18 Haunting Memories of the Dying, and 18 Vexatious Memories of the Dying. These can be obtained in the following ways.
Memory | Location 1 | Location 2 |
---|---|---|
Haunting Memory of the Dying | FATEs in:
|
Heavensward Raids:
|
Vexatious Memory of the Dying | FATEs in:
|
Stormblood Raids:
|
Completing FATEs has a chance to reward one Memory of the Dying, while the Raids are guaranteed to drop one. However, the drop rate from FATEs is high enough that it is much faster to grind those than to do Heavensward and Stormblood Raids 36 times.
We recommend grinding for Haunting Memories in The Lochs, and Vexatious Memories in The Azim Steppe. These locations should frequently have multiple FATEs active at once, meaning you can fly from one to another and complete this step relatively fast.
Complete the Quest 'A New Path of Resistance'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
For this quest, you will need to gather a total of 15 Timeworn Artifacts. You can get these after clearing Delubrum Reginae, or every 10 levels in Palace of the Dead.
- Delubrum Reginae – 3 Timeworn Artifacts rewarded at the end of the dungeon
- Palace of the Dead – Chance to get 1 Timeworn Artifact each time you clear 10 floors. The chance to get one will increase as your floor level increases.
If you choose to farm Delubrum Reginae for this step, you will need to complete the dungeon five times. Although this dungeon can be difficult without the right Lost Actions or if you don't have the right jobs in your party, it is much more consistent than grinding Palace of the Dead. However, if you get lucky with your drops in the Palace, that will be the faster option, overall.
Reward:
- Augmented Law's Order Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 515)
Complete the Quest 'What Dreams Are Made Of'
-
Pre-requisites
- Complete the quest 'A New Playing Field'
-
NPC Location
- Gerolt – Gangos (x:6.2, y:5)
'What Dreams Are Made Of' is a story quest that you will only need to complete once. Simply talk to the NPCs involved to finish it. During your conversations, you will learn that you will need to gather a few different items for the rest of this step.
After turning in the quest, you will be able to accept three new quests: 'Spare Parts,' 'Tell Me a Story,' and 'A Fond Memory.' These are all one-time quests that will require you to gather a total of 60 items, each. They are listed in more detail below.
Complete the Quest 'Spare Parts'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
This is a one-time quest that will require you to gather 30 Compact Axles and 30 Compact Springs. These items can be obtained in the following ways.
Part | Location 1 | Location 2 |
---|---|---|
Compact Axle | Skirmishes in the first zone of Zadnor (rewards 1) | Alexander Raids (rewards 1)
|
Compact Spring | Critical Engagements in the first zone of Zadnor (rewards 2) | Alexander Raids (rewards 1)
|
Complete the Quest 'Tell Me a Story'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
This is also a one-time quest in which you will need to deliver 30 copies of A Day in the Life: Battles for the Realm, and 30 copies of A Day in the Life: Beyond the Rift. You can get these items from the following activities.
Book | Location 1 | Location 2 |
---|---|---|
A Day in the Life: Battles for the Realm | Skirmishes in the second zone of Zadnor (rewards 1) | Omega Raids
|
A Day in the Life: Beyond the Rift | Critical Engagements in the second zone of Zadnor (rewards 2) | Omega Raids
|
Complete the Quest 'A Fond Memory'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
This is the third one-time quest for this step. You will need to gather 30 Bleak Memories of the Dying and 30 Lurid Memories of the Dying, which you can get in the following ways:
Memory | Location 1 | Location 2 |
---|---|---|
Bleak Memory of the Dying | Skirmishes in the third zone of Zadnor (rewards 1) | Eden Raids (rewards 1)
|
Lurid Memory of the Dying | Critical Engagements in the third zone of Zadnor (rewards 2) | Eden Raids (Rewards 1)
|
Complete the Quest 'A Done Deal'
-
NPC Location:
- Gerolt – Gangos (x:6.2, y:5)
After you finish the quests 'Spare Parts,' 'Tell Me a Story,' and 'A Fond Memory,' you will be able to accept the quest 'A Done Deal.' Like the three previous quests, this is a one-time quest that doesn't need to be repeated for further Resistance Weapons.
To complete this quest, simply talk to the NPCs involved, which will eventually give you access to the final step in the Resistance Weapon Questline.
Complete the Quest 'Irresistible'
-
NPC Location:
- Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)
This is the final step in the questline, which will reward you with a finished Blade's Resistance Weapon upon completion. For this quest, you will need to gather 15 Raw Emotions. These can be obtained in the following ways.
- The Dalriada – 3 per clear
- Delubrum Reginae – 2 per clear
- Any level 70 Stormblood Dungeon – 1 per clear
- Heaven-on-high – chance to obtain 1 every 10 floors (higher floors have a higher chance to drop one)
Tip: You can gather Raw Emotions with any job, using any weapon you like.
Because there are four different ways to complete this quest, you might have a hard time deciding which avenue to pursue. Ultimately, choose what you'll have the easiest time doing. Level 70 dungeons will probably be the fastest if you form a party that can do them quickly. Similarly, The Dalriada and Delubrum Reginae are fast with a fast party, but they are also longer on average.
Keep in mind that the previous step in the Resistance Weapon quest requires you to gather Timeworn Artifacts from Delubrum Reginae, meaning you can work on two weapons at once by running this dungeon.
Avoid Heaven-on-high, unless it's something you have fun doing. Ultimately, it's the slowest way to complete this step, and is dependant on RNG to get the Raw Emotions to drop.
After gathering 15 Raw Emotions, return to Zlatan, and your weapon will be complete.
Reward:
- Blade's Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 535)
