Final Fantasy 14: How To Glamour Your Gear

Final Fantasy 14 Swyrgeim Location

One of the most popular jokes within Final Fantasy 14 is that "Glamour is the true endgame" and some players do go through a lot to customize their character's appearance perfectly. The glamour system lets you change the appearance of a piece of equipment, with just a few restrictions.

As the game has progressed over the years, the glamour system has become simplified and had its barrier for entry lowered. These days you only need to have reached level 15 and you can take on the quests to unlock glamour prisms and the recipes required to craft them.

Unlocking Glamours

There are two quests that you can undertake to unlock glamours. Both of them require you to be level 15 before you can take them.

Quest Quest Giver Location
If I Had a Glamour Swyrgeim Western Thanalan (X:12.6, Y:14.3)
A Self-improving Man Wiscard Mor Dhona (X:22.1, Y:6.7)

The quest in Western Thanalan requires that you fetch Swyrgeim some blood orange juice from a nearby bar, and the quest for Wiscard simply involves making a delivery to the nearby Rowena and then returning to him.

Either of these quests will reward you with the Cast Glamour action, 12 Glamour Prisms, and a Green Beret — a piece of vanity equipment that provides no stats but is supposed to look nice.

Getting More Glamour Prisms

While it's possible to simply buy stacks of Glamour Prisms on the market board, it is most cost-effective to craft them yourself. The first thing you'll have to do if you want to craft your prisms is unlocking the recipes. The quests that unlock these recipes require you to complete the quests that unlock the Cast Glamour action detailed above.

Quest Requirements Quest Giver Location
Absolutely Glamourous Complete If I Had a Glamour Swyrgeim Western Thanalan (X:12.6, Y:14.3)
Submission Impossible Complete A Self-improving Man Wiscard Mor Dhona (X:22.1, Y:6.7)

As before, either of these quests will reward you with the Master Recipes: Glamours Set book, which will let you craft Glamour Prisms with any of your crafter classes — except Culinarians, who are understandably not able to rustle up a prism in their skillets. Every one of these recipes requires that the respective crafter be level 15.

Every recipe for a Glamour Prism requires that you have a Clear Prism. These can be purchased for just 200 Gil from multiple vendors across the world, with the most convenient ones probably being Tataroga in Mor Dhona (X:22, Y:7) and Goberin in Western Thanalan (X:12, Y:15).

Along with a Clear Prism, each recipe requires some other materials that are typical of that crafter — the table below details what materials you'll need and some ways to acquire them easily.

Crafter Material How To Acquire
Carpenter Walnut Lumber Purchase from the Ixali Vendor in the North Shroud (X:25, Y:23), or a level 25 crafting recipe that requires three Walnut Logs.
Blacksmith Steel Ingot Purchase from the Amal'jaa Vendor in Southern Thanalan (X:23, Y:14), or a level 26 crafting recipe that requires two Iron Ore and one Bomb Ash.
Armorer Steel Rivets Purchase from the Amal'jaa Vendor in Southern Thanalan (X:23, Y:14), or a level 29 crafting recipe that requires one Steel Ingot.
Goldsmith Silver Ingot A level 23 crafting recipe that requires three silver ore, which is mined in the South Shroud.
Leatherworker Toad Leather A level 26 crafting recipe that requires one Alumen (which is mined in Eastern Thanalan) and one Gigantoad Skin which drops from Gigantoad enemies.
Weaver Undyed Velveteen Purchase from the Sylphic Vendor in the East Shroud (X:22, Y:26), or a level 24 crafting recipe that requires one Dew Thread.
Alchemist 2 Growth Formula Alpha A level 30 crafting recipe that requires one Rock Salt, one Blue Landtrap Leaf, and one Quicksilver.

As you can see from the table, if you want to be cost-effective it's easiest to make Silver Ingots as a Goldsmith as that method only requires some mining in the South Shroud. On the other hand, being time-effective simply requires buying Walnut Lumber, Steel Ingots, Steel Rivets, or Undyed Velveteen from the various Beast Tribe Vendors.

Other sources of Glamour Prisms include trading Wolf Marks, trading Grand Order seals, and trading Bicolor Gemstones from the Shadowbringers FATEs.

Casting A Glamour

The process of casting a glamour is relatively simple. There are, however, a few rules about how the system works.

There are two ways to open the Glamour Menu. The first is through the Cast Glamour action shortcut that you unlock during the first glamour quest. This can be found in the General tab of the Actions & Traits menu and then dragged to a hotbar if you wish. Alternatively, you can simply select a piece of equipment in your Character Menu and then select the Cast Glamour option.

Glamour Plates

Glamour Plates are a way that you can simplify the outfits you carry around with you and clear inventory space at the same time. Once glamours are unlocked, you will find Glamour Dressers in any inn room that you visit.
