Final Fantasy 14 Might Still Come to Xbox Eventually, Producer Suggests

Final Fantasy 14 has really gone from strength to strength over the years, and while it’s only been available on PlayStation and PC, the people behind it have talked on numerous occasions about bringing it to other platforms- more specifically, to Xbox. Recently, however, the MMORPG’s director and producer Naoki Yoshida said that owing to the development team’s tight scheduled, it was unlikely that the game would be coming to any more platforms anytime soon, dashing hopes of an Xbox version.

And now, it seems that hope has been rekindled ever so slightly once more. Speaking with VG247, Yoshida suggested that an Xbox release for Final Fantasy 14 isn’t completely off the table. Though the development team is focused on the upcoming Endwalker expansion and the game’s PS5 launch right now, and though their development schedule remains as tight as ever, Yoshida suggests that Square Enix might still go back to the possibility of bringing the MMO to Xbox.

“There are no obstacles for developing the Xbox version,” said Yoshida. “We were able to undertake development and provide our service thanks to the immense efforts that Phil has invested. For that we are truly grateful!

“The sole factors are the workload and the order of steps. Now when it comes to the Xbox version, there’s unfortunately not much I can say presently but just that we cannot work on all the steps simultaneously and need to follow the order for proceeding with these things. Since we’re currently involved in the development of Endwalker and preparing the PS5 version to follow on from the title’s service on PS4, it’d be appreciated if we can return to touch upon the Xbox version once things have settled!”

Final Fantasy 14 will be launching for PS5 this Fall, alongside Endwalker, though the PS5 version’s beta is kicking off in April, around the same time as the game’s next major patch goes live.
