Fire Emblem Inspired Dark Deity To Launch On Switch In 2022

Though we don’t know when the next Fire Emblem game will be coming out, we luckily have something else to look forward to in the meantime. Dark Deity is a turn-based strategy RPG that looks shockingly similar to Fire Emblem, and it has been confirmed for a 2022 launch on the Nintendo Switch.

Dark Deity was developed by Sword and Axe and published by Freedom Games. It’s clear to see that the game drew inspiration from Fire Emblem. It has only been out on Steam briefly, and we know that it includes 30 distinct characters that are voiced and over 50 unlockable classes. Like in Fire Emblem, there are also tons of different weapons, skills, and magic. Dark Deity will have 28 chapters total.

However, Dark Deity distinguishes itself from Fire Emblem, specifically with how it handles permadeath. In Fire Emblem, when your character dies, they are simply gone from the game, assuming you are not playing on casual mode. But in Dark Deity, they’ve constructed something called the Grave Wound system. Instead of your units being permanently gone after their health reaches zero, they will receive permanent stat penalties to emulate physical injuries or mental scars. The point is to have the player strategize those units in a new way so they can still be useful going forward.

The plot seems to start off quite similar to plenty of other RPGs. The world of Terrazael has become broken through wars and arcane powers. While it used to be a great civilization due to its technological achievements, these are all now buried beneath ancient ruins. It seems that an ancient power known as Calamity is responsible for the downfall.

The part where the plot gets more intriguing is when King Varic of the Kingdom of Delia decides he is desperate enough to bulk up his troops that he expedites the graduation of all students at the Brookstead Military Academy. These students become the main characters who must deal with this enormous catastrophe after they were thrown into the real world much too early.
