First Official Animal Crossing Manga Now Available For Pre-Order

Animal Crossing's first official manga, based on the series' runaway hit Nintendo Switch installment Animal Crossing: New Horizons, is now available for pre-order.

Viz Media announced earlier this year that the first entry of the manga, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Vol. 1 Deserted Island Diary, would be localized in English and released in the West on September 14. It's a comedy manga that centers on the lives of the villagers that inhabit your islands when you're offline, a la Wreck-It Ralph.

The manga was originally released in Japan in 2020, and two volumes have been published so far. Most of the manga in Animal Crossings' 20-year history have been available exclusively in Japan, but New Horizons is the first game to see its manga adaptation translated into English and released in the U.S. and other Western regions. Before the game was even released at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, New Horizons inspired a separate manga series in the February 2020 issue of Ciao magazine. It was a short chapter that follows 10-year-old Hana and her family winning a lottery to go on a tropical island vacation, only to learn from Tom Nook that she's Animal Crossing and that she's on a deserted island.

In October 2019, a tie-in comic strip series by Cho Hanayo called Nook Tales, featuring the misadventures of Tom Nook, Tommy and Timmy, was serialized on the Japanese website for New Horizons. It was later translated and released on the game's English Twitter account.

You can see a list of retailers offering pre-orders on the upcoming manga by visiting its store page on the official Viz website.
