Flight Simulator’s Top Gun Expansion Gets Delayed to May 2022

Microsoft’s Flight Simulator: Top Gun Maverick Expansion Will Still Be Launched Alongside Movie

Microsoft’s Flight Simulator: Top Gun Maverick expansion has been delayed. Asobo Studio and Microsoft have always planned to release the DLC at the same time that the movie is sent to big screens, and since Tom Cruise’s upcoming has been delayed to May 27, 2022, it is safe to say that the expansion has been pushed back as well.

As we have previously announced, the Top Gun: Mavverick expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator for Windows 10, PC, Steam, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Game Pass will be released alongside the movie,” reads a statement on the Microsoft Flight Simulator website. “We look forward to sharing more information in the future.”

These two much-awaited titles are very much connected with one another—so much so that developers cannot even mention the game independently from the marketing of the movie. “Paramount Pictures recently shifted the release date of Top Gun: Maverick to Memorial Day weekend, May 27, 2022,” read the statement.

This sad news came just a few days after Paramount announced delays that left the studio with no single theatrical releases for the rest of 2021. Top Gun: Maverick was supposed to be out by November 19, 2021, but certain circumstances pushed it back to May 2022. Apparently, these delays were due to the spike in Covid cases that were brought by the Delta variant. The delay of Top Gun: Maverick also meant that Cruise’s other upcoming movie, Mission: Impossible 7, will also be moved to August 22, 2022.

Microsoft’s Flight Simulator: Top Gun Maverick DLC was set to be a free expansion, and will reportedly include the F-18, among other things. Still, despite the delay, there is still a lot happening for the title between now and the end of this year—including makeovers for Switzerland, Austria, and Germany for September. Moreover, Asobo has also previously confirmed that two new aircrafts, in addition to a competitive multiplayer mode, will be arriving this fall.
