Focus Home Interactive Acquires Streets Of Rage 4 Developer

It seems that Streets Of Rage 4's developer Dotemu is now part of Focus Home Interactive. This morning, the European publishing and development house announced that Dotemu would join its internal studios later this year.

The press release for the acquisition states 77.5% of Dotemu's revenue will go to Focus Home Interactive. This purchase came about because Focus Home Interactive saw potential in the popularity of retro gaming and re-releases, particularly how Dotemu continues to put out hits like Ys Origin, Heroes of Might and Magic III HD, Streets Of Rage 4, and of course, the upcoming Windjammers 2.

"The arrival of Dotemu marks a key step in the acceleration of [Focus Home's] growth and the diversification of its expertise," claims Christophe Nobileau, CEO of Focus Home Interactive. "By enriching our editorial line, we are opening up new revenue streams and new market shares to conquer in a fast-growing sector."

While acquisitions like this tend to make fans nervous, Dotemu claims joining Focus Home Interactive was a no-brainer. "We share the same passion for video games, the same desire to improve, as well as the same values of respect and benevolence towards our partners and teams," states Cyrille Imber, CEO of Dotemu. "While continuing its activities, this new collaboration will allow Dotemu to benefit from the incontestable expertise of Focus Home Interactive's teams for the production of AA titles and therefore launch the production of future remakes or sequels on licenses of first-generation 3D consoles."

There's no additional information on what those sequels or remakes might be, but the same press release mentions that "other quality titles" will get announcements in the coming months. That extra financial backing from Focus Home Interactive (hopefully) means Dotemu will get its hands on bigger games and series than it would have before. Let's hope that's the case, anyway. Many consider Dotemu's Streets of Rage 4 the best side-scrolling brawler ever, so giving them more wiggle room sounds brilliant.
