Football Manager 2021 Players Have Played Almost Half A Billion Matches

Sega has released some incredible stats about Football Manager 2021, including how many matches have been played and how many goals have been scored.

The football video game world is potentially about to undergo a pretty major facelift this autumn. That all depends on the early success of eFootball, the free-to-play game formerly known as PES. If enough people flock to it when it launches this month and leave FIFA behind, it could force EA's hand.

As for Football Manager, well, the simulator's loyal group of more than one million players probably isn't going anywhere. Efootball or not, there is not a more immersive or better version of what FM has been doing since 2005 out there. As for who's playing and what's going on in the game, Sega recently revealed some very eye-opening stats about its latest installment.

As already touched upon above, more than one million people are playing Football Manager 2021. Between them, those players have overseen 446 million matches and scored more than one billion goals. That's some going considering the latest FM has only been on the market for ten months. Other stats reveal more than eight million seasons have been completed, and almost 380,000 managers have been sacked. Speak now if you are responsible for more than one of those sackings.

While FM is about as immersive and detailed as you could ever hope a football managing sim to be, it will actually get a little less detailed in a very specific way starting with Football Manager 2022. Sega revealed earlier this year that starting with the next chapter of FM, Manchester United will no longer be known by its actual name in-game. United will be called Manchester UFC going forward as the club believes it owns the rights to the team's name and Sega shouldn't be allowed to use that name without its permission.

Any of you playing FM 2021 have a couple more months to keep adding to those stats before FM 2022 will take its place. At that point, all the stats will be reset and you'll be able to start your managerial journeys all over again. Just not as Manchester United anymore. Win the league with the Red Devils as many times as you can before they are replaced with Manchester UFC.
