Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 packs in all sorts of new content themed around Marvel, including a fancy new Groot skin, available as part of the Season 4 Battle Pass. However, unlocking Groot is only part of the battle, as the character also features some challenges to conquer, called Groot Awakening.
The Groot Awakening challenges can be completed while wearing the Groot skin, and will net players some decent extra rewards. Luckily, the challenges aren’t that difficult to complete and there are only two of them, so players should be able to get through them fairly quickly. There may be other players to worry about at the locations of each challenge, so beware, but it should be a fairly easy experience.

First, players are going to need to plant a tree on a heart shaped island for the Groot Awakening challenges. To do this, players need to travel to the far-west side of the map, northwest of Holly Hedges. There, players will encounter an island shaped like a heart, where they’ll be able to plant a tree. At least, the option will appear if they’re in a Groot skin.
Planting the seed is all there is to the first Fortnite Groot challenge, so players are free to move on after they do so, though it may take a little bit of swimming to get back to the island.
Another easy challenge, all players really need to keep in mind is to have the Groot skin equipped, and to stay vigilant for other players. This time, players will need to head to the left of Sweaty Sands, close to where the large castle sits overlooking the water. Below the castle, there will be a forested section, where a large monument of a person made of pipes and a person made of hay bales sits, high-fiving.
To finish the challenge, players just need to emote as Groot. Doing so will also unlock Rocket Racoon as a pet, which will follow Groot around for the match. It’s a pretty neat reward, and it is cool to see the dynamic duo paired up in the game.
The two challenges are relatively close to each other, but worst-case scenario Fortnite players should be able to tackle them in two games, at the most. The Marvel theme for Season 4 leaked ahead of time, so the surprise was somewhat dampened, but there’s a skin in the game to appeal to pretty much any Fortnite and Marvel fan now.
Fortnite is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are currently in development.
