With each season, fans get even more intrigued and excited to see what Epic Games has in store for the battle royale next. The biggest twists by far are the live events that always keep fans wondering what will happen next. Here are the ten best twists in Fortnite.

10 Kevin The Cube’s Impact On Loot Lake

Back in Season 5, a mysterious purple cube came out of a rift in the sky. If players bounced onto the cube, they would be knocked back. Given the name “Kevin,” the cube moved every 1 hour and 43 minutes. Kevin traveled throughout the map, leaving players wondering where it would end up. At the end of the season, Kevin sank into Loot Lake, resulting in the water becoming a purple bounce pad. A lot more players started going to Loot Lake, causing the location to become more popular until it was removed from the game.

9 Walking In A Winter Wonderland

Towards the end of Season 6, players had discovered that an iceberg was approaching the island. The iceberg hit the island simultaneously with Season 7, creating new locations on the map. These locations were Frosty Flights, Polar Peak, and Happy Hamlet. Little did players know that this was the first snowflake in what would become a blizzard. Season 7 introduced a new character, The Ice King, who ended up covering the entire map in snow during The Ice Storm Event. Throughout the map, players could see all of their favorite locations covered in snow and battle against ice fiends.

8 Season 3’s Meteor Shower

Going all the way back to Season 3, a meteor was spotted in the sky. In the days to come, telescopes were put into the game and players were able to get a closer look at it. Weeks went by as more things were added to the game in order to get fans excited for the impact the meteor would leave. At the end of Season 3, meteors began falling to the ground. These meteors changed small areas of the map, such as one of the buildings in Tilted Towers being destroyed. The greatest impact from the meteor shower was the destruction of Dusty Depot, which then became Dusty Divot.

7 Monster Vs. Mecha

In Season 9, the castle at Polar Peak disappeared. Shortly before its disappearance, players found an eye that was revealed due to some of the ice getting cracked. Knowing that a monster was out there, residents began building a mecha to defeat the beast when it returned.

When the monster came back (with Polar Peak’s castle on its back), The Mecha had been built. The two fought each other in an epic battle that fans loved. In the end, The Mecha defeated the monster, kept the island safe, and flew high in the air, out of players’ sight.

6 The Rocket

All the way back in Season 4, the first in-game event occurred. The Visitor was a character who was inside of the meteor from the previous season. Planning his escape off the island, The Visitor used a rocket to get away. However, during the launch, The Visitor lost control of the rocket, which began to fly around various parts of the map, in and out of rifts. Eventually, the rocket went up in the air and inside of one last rift, making its departure off the island. The rift would remain there for quite some time and became an important element in Fortnite‘s story.

5 The Butterfly In The In-Between

Kevin the Cube’s story did not come to a conclusion after sinking into Loot Lake. Kevin would emerge from the water within a few days, taking the land inside of Loot Lake with it. Kevin turned the land of Loot Lake into a flying island that would travel to the places Kevin had in the previous season. After doing so, Kevin returned to Loot Lake and began to break. When Kevin was destroyed, players found themselves in the In-Between. This was the first time players got to see this bright dimension. Upon arrival, a rift took the form of a butterfly and landed on each players’ finger. When returning to the island, Loot Lake became Leaky Lake.

4 Thanos Snaps His Way Into Battle

Fortnite is widely known for its collaborations. Having in-game concerts and crossovers with popular franchises, it’s no surprise that Epic Games and Marvel worked together. In order to promote Infinity War, Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet became an item in the game. Upon finding the Infinity Gauntlet, players turned into Thanos, becoming the most powerful player in the game. Though the collaboration had nothing to do with Fortnite‘s story, it was a huge twist due to how much it changed the gameplay aspect of the battle royale.

The two companies collaborated again in order to promote Endgame with a game mode that allowed players to choose between two teams, Thanos’ army or The Avengers, allowing players to use other weapons in the MCU.

3 The Volcano Destroyed Tilted Towers

Tilted Towers was the location that most players dropped at in nearly every Fortnite game and many thought that Epic Games wouldn’t significantly change the location due to how popular it was. This all changed at the end of Season 8, during The Unvaulting Event. Players were able to go to the In-Between and choose one of six removed weapons to bring back into the game. Players decided to bring back the drum gun. Upon returning to the island, the players witnessed a destroyed Tilted Towers by the volcano on the island. It was replaced by Neo Tilted, a futuristic city that came to the game in Season 9.

2 Midas’ Machine

What is currently the biggest mystery in Fortnite came from The Device Event. Midas had built a machine in an attempt to destroy the storm. In doing so, The Agency blew up and gravity began to decrease, causing players to rise in the air. Midas’ machine did push the storm away but in its place was a tsunami. While all of this was happening, cutscenes showed a mysterious man talking to someone on the phone about the storm. Fans were shocked when the man was revealed to be Jonesy, who was just as surprised to see the players. What all of this means is still up for speculation, though the storm has returned.

1 The Beginning Is The End

Season X, the final season in Fortnite‘s Chapter 1, involved a lot of time travel. Players were introduced to a multiverse and different timelines. As a result, old locations that were removed from the game, characters that played an important role, and objects that impacted the story all made a grand return that fans were delighted by. For example, The Visitor, as well as six other versions of the character, built the rocket from Season 4 again. In an epic live event, The End, the map from Season 1 was destroyed due to a black hole, which even caused the game to be unplayable until Chapter 2 launched.
