Forza Horizon 5 Biomes Detailed By Developer, Includes Swamp, Volcano, And Jungle Regions

Forza Horizon 5 is just a few short months away and in preparation the folks at Playground Games have shared a bunch of new information about the popular racing game. Specifically, the developers have given us a closer look at the 11 unique biomes that will make up its Mexico setting, including an all-new swamp biome.

Following a livestream of Forza’s “Let’s Go” series where Playground Games unveiled first looks at the game, the developer spoke on Xbox Wire about what players can expect within these biomes and how they came to be. On choosing Mexico as the location for Forza Horizon 5, the game’s creative director Mike Brown shared why it was the perfect location for the game they wanted to make; “Mexico is almost like the whole world in one country: snowy peaks, tropical jungles, epic canyons, beautiful beaches, ancient architecture, and modern cities. When you add on Mexico’s incredible culture – the music, the art, the history, the people – there is no more exciting location for the Horizon Festival.”

This Mexico setting will be broken down into 11 distinct biomes that the developers worked diligently to research and recreate. Forza Horizon 5’s art director, Don Arceta, shared that the team used techniques like “photogrammetry” to recreate the real-world environment with precision accuracy. The goal was to create these biomes to feel as real as possible, as if you are truly racing through the canyons of Mexico.

It was also revealed that seasons are making a return meaning that each biome will change depending on which of the four seasons it is experiencing. Here is a closer look at the biomes that the game will be offering:

Canyon – This was the map shown in the reveal for Forza Horizon 5 at E3. It is a rocky setting with formations that are patterned with striations unique to Mexico.

Tropical Coast – A Mexican paradise filled with palm trees, sandy beaches, and crystal-clear water.

Farmland – This biome is filled with rolling hills, lush vegetation, and shallow rivers. Not to mention the fences that are easily barreled through.

Arid Hills – This biome is a dry and grassy one filled with more rolling hills and plains. It offers plenty of open space to really cut loose.

Jungle – This green biome is packed with towering trees and some amazing waterfalls. Plus, hidden temples you can find peppered throughout.

Living Desert – As the name suggests, this desert is livelier than you would expect with lush cactus and flowers growing amongst the rock formations.

Rocky Coast – A beautiful and open view of the ocean accompanies this biome.

Sand Desert – Unlike the Living Desert, this one is less teeming with life. Instead, you will race through towering sand dunes.

Swamp – A first for Forza, this watery biome houses mangrove trees with roots that sprawl throughout making racing a bit dangerous.

Urban City of Guanajuato – Beautiful architecture and a colorful background make this biome must-see.

Volcano – Another first, this biome offers the chance to drive up the side of volcano. It is also the only place in the game to experience snow.

Forza Horizon 5 is shaping up to be the best Forza to date. With so many different locations to explore, there is sure to be something for any driver to love. The game is expected to release for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S. and PC on November 9.
