Forza Horizon 5 Developer on Xbox One Version: “We’re Feeling Pretty Great About All Versions of the Game”

Forza Horizon 5 had probably the most impressive showing of all games at E3 2021, especially on a technical level. Playground Games are leveraging the Xbox Series X/S hardware to delivering some truly stunning stuff- but the game is, of course, going to be cross-gen, which means it’s releasing for Xbox One as well. How did having to develop for a lower spec machine alongside PC and the new consoles affect development? And can we expect the last-gen version of the game to run well, too?

According to creative director Mike Brown, development for both generations hasn’t been an issue. Speaking to Eurogamer, he likened it to developer for lower spec PCs alongside more powerful hardware, and also gave assurances that the development team at Playground Games is “feeling pretty great about all versions of the game.”

“Since Horizon 3, we have already been on PC, and that means that we’re already used to delivering a game on a whole range of system specifications,” Brown said. “So having to have the game work on Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles, PC, it isn’t that different. I think having to support the Xbox One consoles is exactly the same amount of effort as it is to support a lower spec PC. We’re actually feeling pretty great about all versions of the game, to be honest.”

Forza Horizon 5 launches for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on November 9. On Xbox Series X/S, the game will also feature a 60 FPS performance mode. Meanwhile, minimum system requirements for the game’s PC version have also been confirmed.
