Frogger Is Getting A Game Show

Get ready for the strangest version of a throwback you’ve seen in a while. Frogger, a long-beloved arcade game that first launched back in 1981, is now getting its own live-action show, though maybe not in the way you would think.

If you’ve ever seen the show Wipeout, you know it’s essentially a bunch of people competing in trying to get across a massive obstacle course. Though some make it to the end, many end up missing their jumps or getting hit by moving obstacles, resulting in a crash landing into the water. Once you’ve fallen, you’ve lost.

Considering Frogger is a game in which you must navigate your way through busy roads, moving logs, and lily pads to get to the other side, we shouldn’t be totally shocked that someone had the idea to combine this game with the show Wipeout. You can get a closer look at what this means in the trailer below.

This new show is going to be exclusive to NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock, and will be available in the United States. According to NBCUniversal, “These physically demanding challenges will see contestants dodge treacherous traffic, leap over snapping gators and hop over hungry hippos to conquer the course.” The winner of the show will receive $100,000.

The premiere of this Frogger show will be September 9, and new episodes will be added to Peacock every Thursday after that.
