Genshin Impact Character Tier List (August 2021)

Genshin Impact Ganyu Ultimate

The 2.0 update for Genshin Impact released at the end of July, bringing a swathe of new content to miHoYo's gacha-RPG. The Inazuma update added an entirely new nation to the world of Tevyat, including new enemies, domains, bosses, and characters. Three characters from Inazuma have been released so far, joining more than 30 already in Genshin Impact.

With Genshin Impact's gacha system, it's hard for a player to guarantee which characters they'll get access to. Unfortunately, not every Genshin Impact character is equal, with some excelling and others falling short. So, now that players have had time to get to know the latest additions, here's our complete Genshin Impact character tier list for August 2021

S Tier

S-Tier represents the very best Genshin Impact characters, those who dominate the field and trivialize even the hardest Domains. Ganyu and Hu Tao can put out some truly ridiculous damage, particularly with the right Artifacts and Weapons. Raw DPS isn't the only way to get into this elite tier, however, as Zhongli's incredible defensive capabilities are enough to make him the pillar of any team. Similarly, Venti's ability to control the battlefield means that he can enable even low-tier DPS characters to quickly mow through monsters.

A Tier

In the right circumstances, many of the characters in the A-Tier could easily compete with their S-Tier compatriots. However, it's this condition that means they just miss out on the top spot. Characters like Xiao and Diluc shine brightest when they've got a good team supporting them, and have a harder time going solo. The new additions to the A-Tier from Inazuma are Kazuha and Ayaka. Kazuha excels as a support/DPS by proccing Elemental Reactions with his Anemo abilities, while Ayaka is a versatile Cryo-user with the ability to act as Main or Sub-DPS.

B Tier

B-Tier is home to those Genshin Impact characters that are good but not great. This can either be through being a jack-of-all-trades like Jean, or a hyper-focused specialist like Barbara. There are two new additions to B-Tier from Inazuma after the 2.0 update: Sayu and Yoimiya. Sayu is a 4-star Anemo/Claymore character with a fun and versatile skill-set, who specializes in healing allies with proccing Swirl reactions in her Whirlwind mode. Yoimiya is the latest Genshin Impact 5-Star character, a Pyro/Bow user with a powerful set of abilities that are unfortunately lacking in splash attacks and crowd control.

C Tier

The fourth Tier of Genshin Impact characters represents those that are just okay, without any really exciting abilities. Often these characters rely on getting Constellations or perfect Artifacts in order to compete with the higher Tiers, but they can find a place as infrequently-used specialists in a strong team.

D Tier

The worst Genshin Impact characters are relegated to D-Tier, the bottom of the pile. The characters at this level often require significant work and Constellations to even reach base C-Tier strength. It's also worth noting that most of them are characters that are given to players for free at the start of the game. Bad luck for Amber and Lisa, but good news for miHoYo if players are anxious to pull stronger characters through the gacha system.

Genshin Impact is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5.
