It’s a bit one-note by this point to dwell on Genshin Impact’s similarity to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Sure, miHoYo’s upcoming open-world action-RPG bears more than a few similarities to the Nintendo classic that many have found controversial, but it also has a lot that helps it stand out. For one, it’s free-to-play. For another, it’s coming to the PS4 next month.
After more than a year of hyping its existence, miHoYo finally answered the question of when the game is finally being released earlier this month. At the time, though, it only confirmed the PC and mobile release date for Genshin Impact , leaving fans to assume the PS4 version would come sometime later. Turns out that won’t be the case, though, because today it was confirmed that the PS4 version will be out on September 28, the same day as the PC and mobile versions. Better yet, it will come with some exclusive bonuses.

The PlayStation Blog details these features. When the game comes to PS4, players will receive access to two exclusive items, the Sword of Descension and Wings of Descension. According to the Blog’s description the Sword of Descension will provide players with a “considerable increase to attack damage” as well as a “chance of dealing additional damage to nearby opponents.” The Wings of Descension, meanwhile, is a glider that will let them get around Genshin Impact’s world quickly and “safely navigate heights that would be otherwise impossible.”
miHoYo promises that more exclusive bonuses will come to the game in the future. In the meantime, players can get their hands on additional content courtesy of a pre-order bundle available now in the North American and European PlayStation Store. For $9.99, the Adventurer’s Starter Bundle will provide players with a variety of items designed to get them off to a smoother start once Genshin Impact launches. These include:
- Advanced character EXP material: Hero’s Wit ×15
- Advanced weapon EXP material: Mystic Enhancement Ore ×20
- Wish material: Acquaint Fate ×2
- Currency: Mora ×150,000
- Character EXP material: Adventurer’s Experience ×80
- Weapon EXP material: Fine Enhancement Ore ×50
- Food items: Northern Smoked Chicken ×10, Sautéed Matsutake ×10, Sweet Madame ×10, Tea Break Pancake ×10
In addition to PC, PS4, and mobile devices, miHoYo announced earlier this year that Genshin Impact would also be coming to the Switch, which will put it on the same platform as the game many accused it of ripping off. As of this writing, however, there’s been no update as to when that version will come out.
Genshin Impact will be free-to-play starting September 28 for Mobile, PC, and PS4. A Switch version is also in development.
