Animal Sanctuaries are one of the few new side activities in Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, allowing you to interact with a variety of different wild creatures after belting out a tune on your flute and reminiscing about your late mother. It’s a peaceful distraction from all the mongol murder that defines much of the game, and it’s well worth tracking them down.
Monkeys, Deer, and Cats are spread across Iki Island, and tracking them down can be tricky unless you’re willing to trot along to every single icon in search of them. To make things easier, we’ve compiled the exact locations for all of the animal sanctuaries in Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut alongside a few images to help pinpoint the locations.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut – All Monkey Sanctuaries
The first monkey sanctuary is located on a small island known as Raider's Promontory, where you will need to kill a few bandits before freeing the animals from a wooden cage. After they’re dispatched, you’ll be free to sit down and play your flute with no disturbances.
You can find the second monkey sanctuary to the left of Saruiwa Outlook on a cliff overlooking the horizon. It's easy to spot thanks to the large rock and man adorned in a blue robe loitering nearby.
The third and final sanctuary is located atop Mount Saruiwa, and is arguably the hardest animal sanctuary to reach in the entire game given it’s found atop a literal mountain. It takes a few solid minutes to climb, but the view that meets you at the top is worth the wait.
Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut – All Deer Sanctuaries
The first sanctuary can be found in Sly Hunter’s Forest – which might be a nod to Sly Cooper – and a group of bandits will be located here holding a couple of poor citizens hostage.
The second deer sanctuary is located just below Zasho River after clearing a Mongol settlement. After completing this area, you will automatically spawn next to the sanctuary flute spot right after the cutscene.
The final deer sanctuary is located on the edge of Old Gambler’s Wood right next to the coast. You will find the flute platform just before the ground plunged into the water in a spacious place filled with fallen leaves.
Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut – All Cat Sanctuaries
This sanctuary can be found below Tatsu’s Ladder and to the far left of Zasho’s River, and is resting on the left-hand side of a longer river stretching across the island. You will be ambushed by wolves and bandits when first interacting with the platform – so prepare for a fight.
The second cat sanctuary is found directly above the Kidafure Battleground. There’s a chance it will be occupied by a trio of bandits when you stumble across it, so be prepared for a quick scrap.
The final cat sanctuary is located above Barrier Cove and to the right of Thunderhead Cliffs. It is being guarded by a trio of enemies who have taken a few cats prisoner. Kill them to unlock the ability to play your flute.
