Ghost of Tsushima Update Adds Adorable Fox Animations

Ghost of Tsushima fans have been treated to a lot of new content and substantial updates in the past couple of weeks. With the launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, the Iki Island expansion DLC, and Ghost of Tsushima: Legends' Rivals mode, there is more than enough content to satiate players both old and new. But one account, dubbed Can You Pet the Dog?, has concentrated its attention toward a much smaller update to the game.

This particular account follows which games allow players to pet a dog or comparable animal, domestic or otherwise. The account has built a considerable name for itself, and is thought of by many to have ushered in an era of games that consciously include animals that players can interact with. Players could previously pet Ghost of Tsushima's foxes, who would first lead them to Inari shrines from respective fox dens. In the case of Ghost of Tsushima, however, the account has observed a notable update in fox behavior.

Today, the account has spotted an adorable update in Ghost of Tsushima that adds animations for foxes when they are petted. With these new animations, which may best be described by fans as "tippy taps," foxes happily anticipate pets with quick, antsy steps as an input prompt appears above them. Foxes also roll over onto their backs in the update and kick their feet upward as they receive belly rubs. The account suggests that these animations may have been implemented in Ghost of Tsushima's latest 2.08 patch, which rings true since they were not previously seen in-game beforehand.

Players have already responded positively to the update's fox animations as a quality of life change in Ghost of Tsushima and an incentive for anyone who has not yet picked up the game to finally do so. Sucker Punch Productions shared that 55.63 million foxes were pet within Ghost of Tsushima's first year, demonstrating how much fun players have had exploring the island's open-world and encountering its wholesome critters. It makes sense, then, that these playful player interactions with cute animals would remain a priority moving forward.

A lot of content has been adapted over into Ghost of Tsushima's latest expansion upgrade, such as its console legacy skins being transferred over from its multiplayer mode to its single-player mode through easter egg-laden shrines. Foxes receiving new animations is perhaps not as large of an update to Ghost of Tsushima as an entire island DLC, but the reception to it shows that fans greatly appreciate these smaller details and how they affect the game's atmosphere.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is available now on PS4 and PS5.
