Skater XL Launches Multiplayer Free Skate Mode On PlayStation

Skater Xl Multiplayer

Easy Day Studios today announced Skater XL is bringing its Multiplayer Free Skate mode to PlayStation consoles. Already available on Steam in Early Access, the new mode will let up to ten people skate together in a single session – and it even offers the same Replay Editor as single-player, making it easy to film your high-flying group stunts.

Skater XL was released last year to fairly positive reviews, although the lack of multiplayer was a sticking point with most fans. With the new update on PS4 and PS5, however, that's largely a thing of the past. The team was careful not to upset Skater XL's stable framerate when adding more players, as you'll need all the frames you can get when trying to pull off a tricky line.

Jeff Goforth, director of marketing at Easy Day Studios, said he is glad the team can finally bring a bit of cooperative gameplay to the masses.

"Skateboarding is more fun with friends, and there’s nothing quite like hanging out, talking shop, and vibing off each other," Goforth said. "That essential experience inspired us to create Skater XL’s online Multiplayer Free Skate mode."

He continued, "We’re excited to say this update comes with big FPS improvements. The game runs significantly smoother now and even with many characters on screen during online play is significantly smoother even than the previous version in single-player mode. Skater XL’s gameplay and controls are feeling better than ever on all PlayStation consoles."

Beyond the multiplayer mode, you'll also find new gear from companies such as New Balance, Es Footwear, and Dickies. Goforth said more content drops will arrive throughout the year.

Skater XL first added a multiplayer beta on Steam in April, so it's great to finally see the mode heading over to PS4 and PS5. The game has helped fill the void left by the Skate franchise – although it looks like the long-dormant series is gearing up for a comeback.
