God of War Ragnarok Gives First Look at Thor

Ever since the explosive reboot of the series took players to the world of Norse mythology, many fans have been wondering how Santa Monica Studio would follow with God of War: Ragnarok. Today, fans can now get a better idea of what's going on with the sequel, thanks to Sony's 2021 PlayStation Showcase.

Along with the new God of War: Ragnarok trailer that premiered at the event, there have been plenty of posts of concept art on Twitter of various characters. Raf Grassetti, the art director for the game, shared some stills of Kratos, Atreus, and even Thor.

In the post, Grassetti is showcasing Thor in a more Viking-esque appearance than usual mainstream depictions, more along the lines of the Thor from Avengers: Endgame. In the post, it is also revealed that Thor will be voiced by Ryan Hurst in God of War: Ragnarok, who is most commonly known for his roles in the movies Remember the Titans and Saving Private Ryan.

The last time Thor was shown in the game was during an after-credits scene from the previous God of War game. Now, it is looking like Thor and Freya are going to be the new main villains of God of War: Ragnarok, coming to take revenge on Kratos for the death of Thor's brother Baldur and his son Modi.

Some fans are complaining that the art directors made Thor look too fat. However, others quickly disputed this point by saying that Thor still has muscle; it just isn't chiseled for appearances. Some other users are also saying they preferred Thor to how he appeared at the end of the first game, but it's important to remember this is just concept art and not a screenshot from the game. Luckily, many fans are happy with Thor's in-game portrayal, stating that it is much closer to how it would look in Norse mythology.

In addition, it has also been revealed on Twitter that Ratatoskr, the squirrel messenger god, will also be making a more significant appearance for the sequel. In the last game, people were able to summon Ratatoskr to bring them useful items like health stones or rage stones. Now, Ratatoskr will have its own scenes and voice actor to accompany players along their journey.

Hopefully, fans are happy about Thor's depiction in the game and the interactions he will have with Kratos and Atreus. It will be interesting to see what Santa Monica Studio has in mind for the game and if fans will possibly be seeing Thor next.

God of War: Ragnarok will release for PS4and PS5 in 2022.
