God of War: Ragnarok has a new trailer!

God of War: Ragnarok is now officially a thing as we have a proper trailer for the title. The game will conclude the Norse saga for Kratos and “you can’t have it called Ragnarok and not have it happen, so it’s gonna happen!”

The trailer has Kratos showing off a load of new moves and his son, Loki, riding around on a spectral antelope like creature. We are also introduced to a new female character who is not named. “You’ll get your answers soon enough,” she teases, “Well, some of them.”

Loki is being quite annoying in the trailer and Kratos still seems to be having issues being a father. The video also sees some friends from the first game returning, and it appears that the father and son team are on a quest to find Odin.

UPDATE: Here’s your first look at Thor!

God of War: Ragnarok was first announced during a previous PS5 Showcase and at the time a release window of 2021 was given but we now expect it in 2022. We were fans of the PlayStation 4 reboot, though not quite as head-over-heels for it as some. In our God of War review, Jim said:

“A lot of what goes into God of War feels as though it was cherry-picked from the modern gaming zeitgeist. The semi-open world structure, loot system, and a much deeper narrative focus work well, but are all trends being pushed by most other big games. As a result, God of War can feel slightly homogenised in a way that some fans may find unappealing. Thankfully, a strong sense of setting and brutally satisfying combat help maintain that God of War identity. If it wasn’t made abundantly clear already, this is the first in what will most likely be a new trilogy for the God of War franchise, and this first instalment serves as a pretty great foundation.”

Here’s to the sequel building on those solid foundations.
