PlayStation 5 launch title Godfall will soon be expanding its horizons in a big way. Developer Counterplay Games is prepping one of the most significant Godfall updates yet with Lightbringer on August 10, coming alongside its first major post-launch expansion, Fire & Darkness. Game Rant recently spoke with Counterplay about Godfall's big new expansion and why it should be worthwhile for fans of the looter-slasher game.
In a recent interview with Game Rant, Godfall game director Daniel Nordlander revealed that the new Fire Realm area coming in the Fire & Darkness expansion will be the largest in the game to date. While exploring the Fire Realm, Godfall players will come face to face with brand new enemies and "extravagant loot," all the while taking in some unique sights that should help the Fire Realm stand out from the other realms in the game.

In the base Godfall game, players are able to explore the Earth, Water, and Air Realms, with each area designed to resemble their namesake. The Fire Realm in Godfall's Fire & Darkness expansion will be no different, with players able to explore its "obsidian peaks" and "azure magma rivers." Fans can count on the Fire Realm being brought to life with Godfall's always-impressive graphics, and it will no doubt be exciting for returning players to see everything this massive new area has in store.
Those who have completed Godfall's story will also have good reason to return, as the Fire & Darkness expansion is set after the events of the base game. Players will have to fight back against an "all-consuming darkness" that's threatening the Godfall game world of Aperion. The developers have teased that this new threat an even greater challenge than Macros, who serves as the final boss of the base game.
The Godfall Fire & Darkness expansion is a fresh opportunity for the game to grow its fanbase as well as bring lapsed players back into the fold. The chance to explore the Fire Realm, collect new Valorplate skins, and fight new foes should be enticing enough for fans of the franchise, but there are other reasons to come back as well. "We are always listening closely to players and working hard to make Godfall the best game it can be," Nordlander said. "We have implemented a number of community-requested features and will continue to keep an open line of communication with our fans."
Godfall is certainly making fan-favorite changes with the Fire & Darkness expansion and the Lightbringer update. Fans can look forward to a Godfall PS4 port, the highly-requested matchmaking feature, and more when the update drops on August 10.
Godfall is out now for PC, PS4, and PS5. The Fire & Darkness expansion drops August 10.
