Grand Theft Auto Online Tattoo May Hint at Cut Content for Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a massive open world game with an expansive world full of secrets and interesting things for players to discover. Like with any video game, though, not everything that was planned for Red Dead Redemption 2 made it into the final game. Datamining efforts have discovered some of the cut content that was planned for Red Dead Redemption 2 at various stages of its development, but as it turns out, a tattoo from Grand Theft Auto Online may hint at even more cut content.

This was pointed out by YouTube channel Strange Man, which specializes in Rockstar Games content. The video draws attention to a Grand Theft Auto Online tattoo called X Marks The Spot, which is apparently representive of Guarma from Red Dead Redemption 2. Guarma, for the uninitiated, is an island that players visit during Chapter 5 of Red Dead Redemption 2.

The video explains that the tattoo has symbols that correlate to content that was cut from Red Dead Redemption 2. This includes shark fins, which Strange Man argues are representative of the sharks that were supposed to be swimming in the water when players visit Guarma. There's also a sea monster, whose audio files have been found in Red Dead Redemption 2, and would've basically been the Loch Ness Monster. The possible model for this later appeared in the Grand Theft Auto Online Cayo Perico Heist expansion.

It seems much of the cut content for Red Dead Redemption 2's Guarma area revolved around animals, but not all of it. For example, the video refers to quicksand that is referenced on the tattoo. Evidence of quicksand being planned for Guarma was also allegedly found in the Red Dead Redemption 2 game files.

Strange Man isn't sure about all of the supposed references and Easter eggs on the Grand Theft Auto Online X Marks the Spot tattoo, surmizing that one was a nod to a possible planned chupacabra Easter egg. Red Dead Redemption 2 Easter eggs and Easter eggs in Rockstar Games in general haven't shied away from supernatural things, so that doesn't sound outside the realm of possibility at all.

The video ends with Strange Man expressing hope that one day Rockstar Games will be able to fully flesh out Guarma and restore this content that was ultimately cut from the game. Strange Man suggests that this could potentially happen in a Red Dead Online update, though that remains to be seen. Rockstar Games is reportedly busy working on the PS2-era Grand Theft Auto remasters, so Red Dead fans will have to hang tight for now.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
