GreedFall – Is The De Vespe Conspiracy Worth It? | Game Rant

Greedfall The De Vespe Conspiracy

Back in late June, GreedFall received an expansion pack in addition to an upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. GreedFall was received well when it was originally released and was considered by many to be a surprise hit. The game was credited for having a BioWare-esque approach to its story and characters, and it gained a strong following. With its new expansion available, The De Vespe Conspiracy, there could be ample reason for fans of the original game to return to it.

Thanks to the original game's success, the developer, Spiders, was able to put the resources into crafting The De Vespe Conspiracy and its next-gen release. The developer's portfolio is filled with action-RPG titles, and Spiders is currently working on its next game, SteelRising, for PC and next-gen console. Still, GreedFall has arguably been the studio's most successful title to date, explaining why the time was put into a next-gen release and a proper expansion. The De Vespe Conspiracy expands the land of Teer Fradee from the original game and adds some new content, and it might be enough to convince some lapsed players to return to GreedFall.

For gamers who played the original version of GreedFall that launched in 2019 and enjoyed it, The De Vespe Conspiracy could make it worth returning to Teer Fradee. The De Vespe Conspiracy features a new location, enemies, and all the expected bells and whistles from a large piece of additional content. Players continue in the role of De Sardet as they confront a conspiracy, with the De Vespe family at the center of it. The De Vespe Conspiracy provides more of GreedFall's same core gameplay and exploration, with a few added wrinkles of new enemies and the new setting. There isn't much new on offer compared with the base game's content, though fans of the original will likely find this expansion to be a pleasing affair.

The De Vespe Conspiracy alone is unlikely to win over new GreedFall fans, however. The expansion doesn't add any major mechanics or essential plotlines, which means it could have a hard time hooking in indifferent gamers or those who didn't like the base game. However, in conjunction with the next-gen consoles updates and its low price, it might be a strong enough case for players to try out GreedFall again. Completionist gamers can look forward to five hours or so of new gameplay, but gamers who simply want to experience the main story beats could finish it in as little as 90 minutes.

GreedFall's expansion isn't necessarily a must-buy for fans of the original game, but those gamers could find a lot to like in it. It has some new enemies and characters, along with a new location, without doing anything wildly new. Conversely, GreedFall's new content might have a hard time winning over new fans. The content is overall very similar to the core game, and it doesn't have a large new gameplay hook that could appeal to gamers anew. Ultimately, The De Vespe Conspiracy is worth checking out for die-hard fans of the game and those that already put some time into it, while any players who weren't impressed with the base game might will a difficult time justifying a playthrough of the expansion.

GreedFall is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
