The game slowly teaches the player the mechanics of the game through providing practice dummies along the way— although these can kill players too. When it comes to boss fights, though, this title is as brutal as the Dark Souls series. Amalgam, the first boss of Grime, is a proof of that. Here's how to fight this boss and live to tell the tale.

From the Weeping Cavity Depths Surrogate, continue exploring forwards and meet an NPC who goes by the name Yon. They will give the playercompliments and leave to find a gift. Keep exploring upwards to meet Yon again and receive a weapon called Maul Axe. Just a bit further to the right is the Beacon waiting in a corner.

From the Beacon, keep going right. There's a weapon called Twin Fangs that can be picked along the way. At this point, the only way to go is upwards, so climb up the stone wall. Keep exploring upwards until Yon can be found on the other side of a barrier. Take the left path to find the Weeping Cavity Tearfalls Surrogate.

From the Weeping Cavity Tearfalls Surrogate, go left and climb all the way up. Be careful of the bone spikes. Use absorb to get through obstacles involving Ancient Limb preys, to avoid getting knocked back over and again. Avoid exploring for now; instead, keep straight ahead to meet 4 Frail Arm preys and pick up a weapon called Bellow Mace along the way. Go down and explore downwards to be reunited with Yon. Break the barrier to open the shortcut, and to get back to the Tearfalls Surrogate.

From the Weeping Cavity Tearfalls Surrogate, take the right path. Go straight through the opening where there was once a barrier. Amalgam is inside a head statue further ahead.

Hit this head statue once to trigger the boss fight. A total of 4 limbs will appear on each side of the statue. Absorb the limbs when it starts to strike an attack.

The right limbs will be cut off, while the mouth will open up to make a path towards the other side. Repeat the same strategy on the remaining limbs to end the First phase.

Now that their peace is being disturbed, Amalgam will break out from the head statue, revealing a total of 6 limbs.

  • Each upper limb carries a part of the statue, which makes it a hammer. It's slow, but covers all ranges and deals a huge amount of damage.
  • Each middle limb slams an attack on within medium to long range. Sometimes it attacks going inwards, unlike the upper limbs.
  • Each lower limb slams an attack within close to medium range. It's fast and often attacks within close range going outwards.

In the Second phase, players should stay under the lower limbs and focus on these. Absorb the lower limbs as they are about to slam their fists. Quickly move to the other bottom limb that's about to slam as well. After a moment, these limbs will regenerate. Keep up this strategy until Amalgam screams with rage.

The third phase of the battle starts after Amalgam screams. The attacks during this phase are much quicker and can be confusing. Familiarizing Amalgam's patterns will help the player win the boss fight.

Reserve a huge portion of the force for evading the upper and middle limb attacks, and absorb the lower and the middle limbs. Attack the body once or twice while waiting for the limbs to regenerate. Stay within close-medium range only while attempting to bring Amalgam down.
