Three of GTA’s Games Get Remastered For Next-Gen Consoles
Grand Theft Auto fans have been sent into a frenzy after a report about an upcoming remaster made their rounds on the Internet. Apparently, Rockstar Games is not only remastering one or two, but three of the franchise’s games—all with Unreal Engine adaptation.
According to the report, Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City are all getting remastered versions. Moreover, it also suggests that these games will be out this Fall for multiple platforms, including the Switch. Rumours that Rockstar was working on remasters of these classic PS2-era GTA titles have been around for quite some time now, but the fire was fed when Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, used DMCA takedowns to remove fan remasters. Reportedly featuring new and old graphics, the remastered versions of the GTA trilogy are supposedly already in their final stages of development.
Rockstar Dundee, the Scottish branch of Rockstar Games, is said to be the spear-header in the GTA Trilogy remaster project. In addition to this, the studio, formerly known as Ruffian Games, is also involved in the development of the next-gen GTA 5 ports that have been slated to launch later this year. The Scottish outpost was also the genius minds behind Crackdown 2, Crackdown 3, and helped in the development of the Master Chief Collection.
Sources were reportedly given a sneak preview of how the remasters would run, and the featured graphics reminded them of a heavily-modded version of the classic GTA gameplay. The UI will be fully remastered for each of the games, but the classic Grand Theft Auto will be retained and will stay true to the franchise’s signature.
Rockstar’s original plan, as said in the report, was to release the GTA Trilogy remasters as a bonus package for players who purchase the upcoming next-gen ports of GTA 5 and GTA Online. Now, their plan seems to be to launch the games around late October or early November for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC, Stadia, and even mobile phones.
