GTA Remastered Trilogy Will Launch In 2022, According To Leaker

Rumors surrounding a GTA Remastered Trilogy bundle have been swirling for a while now, boiling over when publisher Take-Two Interactive began to take down mods, particularly ones that reverse-engineered GTA 3 and Vice City. Kotaku then published a report claiming that reliable sources had told them that the GTA remasters are in the final stages of development, aiming for a 2021 release date. However, a leaker has now said that 2022 is more likely.

The leak came from DualShockers reporter Tom Henderson, a fairly reputable source who has had claims corroborated by the likes of Bloomberg (such as in the case of claiming that GTA 6 wouldn't arrive until 2025). However, he stated that he was being quiet about the GTA remasters "because everything [he's] heard has been covered."

That being said, he has now spoken up because he claims that Kotaku's report of the release date doesn't match what he has been told. According to Kotaku's report, the collection will contain GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, developed by Rockstar Dundee known for their work on another remaster – Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Reportedly, it was meant to launch alongside GTA 5 'Expanded & Enhanced' Edition in November.

Henderson's claim of staying quite because everything he knows has been covered so far seems to indicate that there is some alleged legitimacy to these claims, that it will be GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas from Rockstar Dundee.

However, he added that it is launching "sometime in 2022" and not 2021 as Kotaku reported.

It is possible, as one commenter pointed out, that the collection will be announced in October for GTA 3's anniversary. Launching the next month alongside GTA 5's next-gen upgrade would be a very short window for marketing, but it isn't entirely unfeasible.

At any rate, Rockstar has yet to say anything, but if this remastered collection is in fact real, then it looks to be launching sometime between 2021 and 2022. Which leak is correct, however, remains to be seen.
