"The entire experience – from chats in the House of Hades, to conversations with the Olympians, to brawling with sentiente chariots wearing the almighty boxing gloves that took down Hyperion – is further complemented by the game's distinct art style and spectacular soundtrack," we stated in our review. "Hades is, to put it plainly, a masterpiece."
This singleplayer roguelite dungeon-crawler is £19.99 and it comes from the devleoper of Bastion. You play as the immortal Prince of the Underworld, Hades' son – Zagreus. Your goal is to escape from his domain but he pits obstacle after obstacle in your way, constantly resulting in you falling face-first back into the hub which you can upgrade and spruce up with the trinkets you find on your journey.
There's queer romances, skills and weapons to unlock, and a whole host of iconic Greek gods to chat with. It even sports a platinum trophy for achievement hunters to scramble for.
Hades was an award-winning contender for Game of the Year but it lost out narrowly to The Last of Us Part 2. Still, standing toe-to-toe with Naughty Dog and nearly coming out on top is a feat in itself.
