Halo Infinite Big Team Battle reduced to 10v10 as matchmaking errors continue

343 Industries has reduced the size of Halo Infinite’s Big Team Battle mode as they try to diagnose the matchmaking errors that have plagued the mode over the past week. Originally released as a 12v12 game mode, this has been reduced to 10v10 for the time being. The 4v4 arena modes are unaffected.

The #HaloInfinite team is continuing to investigate matchmaking errors in Big Team Battle. To aid the investigation, BTB will temporarily reduce from 12v12 to 10v10 players. We’ll monitor how this change impacts the issue, so stay tuned for updates and the return of 12v12.

With fewer players needed to get the game mode up and running, matchmaking errors should be reduced. Getting into Big Team Battle has been a right pain for the last week with what feels like an endless stream of errors popping up when trying to matchmake. When you can get into a game, it runs fine in our experience, but actually managing to do so was working maybe one time in every four attempts at best.

A December 15 Hotfix was also released to target issues with Quick Resume, and campaign unlocks and achievements. Here’s the patch notes for the roughly 1GB download:

Global

  • Improvements to online service connections after re-entering Halo Infinite using Quick Resume on Xbox Series X|S consoles. Players should see quicker and more stable reconnections to our services.

Campaign

  • MJOLNIR Armor Locker customizations collected in Campaign are now consistently unlocked in the Multiplayer Customization menu.
    • Players who did not receive their customizations, either due to losing their internet connection or using Quick Resume on Xbox Series X|S consoles, should now have their customizations unlocked.
  • Xbox Achievement reliability has been improved in this update.
    • Achievements no longer track progress toward their completion, but will unlock as expected when their conditions are met.
    • If an Achievement’s conditions were met prior to this update but the Achievement did not unlock as completed yet, it should unlock after installing this update and continuing Campaign gameplay.

It’s been a busy week for 343 Industries who earlier added permanent playlists for Slayer, Fiesta, FFA, and Tactical Slayer (SWAT) on the 14th. This has gone some way to assuage complaints over the playlist set up, but there’s still more work to do on this front.

Additionally, 343 hosted a Winter Stream that looked at the current state of the game, promised changes to progression, customisation and events – the Fracture: Tenrai event in particular is getting a big overhaul to the event pass – and teased the Winter Contingency game event. Read about all those details here.
