Halo Infinite’s List of Accessibility Features is Impressive
We spent some time with Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign over the past week and you can check out those impressions here. One thing that stood out for us during our time with Master Chief is all the accessibility features in the game. It is impressive and such a great thing to see.
It is clear 343 Industries is doing everything they can to make the newest journey into the Halo universe more accessible to as many folks as possible. 343 built-in new features to enable people to customize their Halo Infinite gameplay experience.
Here are some ways they are doing that:
Subtitles
- Adjust the font size & background opacity
- Enable color coding of dialogue per speaker
- Subtitles for all dialogue, or just dialogue related to the narrative in Campaign
Blind and Low Vision Menu Navigation
- Menu narrationwith adjustable narration speed
- Linear Navigation”that lets users navigate through the UI without the need to visually see how controls are positioned on-screen to access them
- Customize Font Size across the front end and HUD
Colorblind
- Option of changing the friendly and enemy colors
Low Vision HUD
- HUD (Heads-up Display) and reticle
Communication
- Text-to-speech and speech-to-text options
Audio
- Individual Volume controls for a variety of sounds (examples)
Controls
- Remappingfor both controller and keyboard/mouse to rebind keys, adjust sensitivity, taps/toggles versus holds, auto clamber, step jump and more
- Movement Assisted Steering, which offers additional controls for wheeled vehicles in place of classic “look-to-steer” mechanic
Sensory Settings
- Players can adjust Blur, Screen shake, Exposure, Full-Screen effects, speed lines, and sharpening
Halo Infinite is available on December 8, 2021 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer component has been in open beta as of November 15, 2021.
