Hideo Kojima Has Some Strange Ideas for Mads Mikkelsen Projects

Hideo Kojima is one of the most well-known names in the video game industry. A supporter of in-game photo modes, he is the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series as well as Death Stranding, one of the most divisive triple-a titles in recent memory.

It would be an understatement to say that Death Stranding divided players. Regardless of the split opinion, however, it was undoubtedly a success, and is getting both DLC and, according to Norman Reedus, a sequel. One of the actors in Death Stranding, in particular, seems to have captured Kojima's imagination for other projects.

Mads Mikkelsen seems to be foremost in Kojima's thoughts of late, according to a Tweet from Kojima himself. Kojima has many ideas for projects starring the Danish actor. Upon approaching Mikkelsen with these ideas, Kojima did not get the response he was expecting. Mikkelsen was initially well responsive, no doubt being familiar with Kojima's esoteric ideas. However, rather than possible sequel threads for Death Stranding, this project had the tentative title "Mads Max," which Mikkelsen thought was a joke. According to Kojima, it was not.

No other details are known about what shape this idea would take at this time. From the title, if Kojima is indeed serious, it could be anything from a racing game to a post-apocalyptic slog similar to Death Stranding itself, presumably with Mads Mikkelsen in a starring role this time. Initially taken as a joke or not, there's little doubt that Kojima is probably serious about the title, even if its actual name eventually changes. Kojima has stated he intends to keep creating until his brain loses power, and a big part of that is trying out everything he wants to.

It's no surprise that Kojima is drawn to Mikkelsen, considering the actor's range and history. Playing everything from darkly realistic roles to a James Bond villain, Mikkelsen easily portrays both mysterious and dangerous characters. He wouldn't have been a bad choice for a mind-bender like 12 Minutes, a game Kojima has praised.

Whatever this project ends up being, if it becomes anything at all, it's likely far off in the future. It may take inspiration from the upcoming Death Stranding Fragile Racing mode, or be something completely unprecedented. With Kojima and Mikkelsen involved, there's really nothing that players shouldn't expect.

Death Stranding: Director's Cut will release on September 24, 2021, for PS5.
