Hollow Knight: Where To Get The Collector’s Map | Game Rant

Hollow Knight has no shortage of items and collectibles. There are so many things to do in the game in terms of exploration, and one notable activity is Grub rescuing. Grubs are scattered all throughout the game, and when rescued and returned to the Grubfather, he will generously reward the player. While the player can easily stumble upon Grubs as they progress through the game, there is a way to make this process easier.

Grubs are initially unseen on the map, making it harder to find the ones in more hidden areas. The Collector's Map, however, reveals all of them. Those who want to find every single Grub in the game can make things easier for themselves by finding the Collector's Map.

Before proceeding, players should note that they will need to acquire a couple of spells and abilities to successfully obtain the Collector's Map. These include the following"

  • Shade Cloak
  • Isma's Tear
  • Crystal Dash (Optional)
  • Mantis Claw

Queen's Garden is located on the western part of the map. The level has an upper entrance and a lower entrance, both of which are accessible via Fog Canyon. If the player wants to take the upper entrance, they will first need to acquire Shade Cloak so they can dash through the Shade Gate that's blocking the way.

Otherwise, they can use the lower entrance. This option is hindered by a pool of acid, so the player will need to obtain Isma's Tear beforehand. If they're skilled enough, they can also use Crystal Dash to get across the acid pool, but this will require precise timing. The former option is a better choice, since players will need Isma's Tear for later anyway.

Once the player gets to the Queen's Garden, they will need to work their way to a corner area located on the southeast of the level. Check the image above to see the exact location of the aforementioned area. This place hides the Love Key, the key needed to open the Tower of Love, which is where the Collector's Map is located.

The player will need to face a handful of enemies before getting to the Love Key, such as Mossflies, Mantis Petras, and Mantis Traitors. The key is also blocked by an acid pool, which the player can cross using Crystal Dash or swim through using Isma's Tear. Once they get to the proper area, the Love Key can be looted off a corpse.

The next step is to head to the Tower of Love. This level is a sub-area of the City of Tears, but it is accessible via Kingdom's Edge. Its entrance is located on the western side of Kingdom's Edge. After completing the goal, doors to the south can then be opened. These lead to King's Station, making the trip back easier.

Upon entering the Tower of Love, the player will be met with a closed door with a massive keyhole. Opened this door with the the Love Key. Enter, climb the tower, defeat a couple of enemies along the way. Finally, players will meet the boss of the sub-area.

The only thing that stands between the Knight and the Collector's Map now is The Collector, the boss of the Tower of Love. This boss is a void being, much like the main protagonist. This boss fight is far from the toughest in the game, but it still shouldn't be underestimated.

One of The Collector's most characteristic moves is when he jumps up into the ceiling, causing jars to drop down. In few instances, a jar will contain nothing. In most cases, however, they will contain small enemies such as Vengeflies, Aspid Hunters, and Baldurs. The boss will also do a forward grab attack. As long as the player remains mobile, they should be able to defeat this boss easily.

After defeating the Collector, the player can simply go to the next room, climb up using Mantis Claw, free three Grubs, and obtain the Collector's Map at the end of the room. Collecting the map will automatically reveal all the Grubs the player hasn't collected yet, including ones in levels that are still unexplored.

There are a total of 46 Grubs in the game. As soon as the player frees on from their jars, the Grub will burrow to the ground and automatically return to the Grubfather. The player will receive 5 to 10 Geos for every Grub they've rescued. The Grubfather will also give the player other rewards upon reaching a certain number of Grubs freed. Here are the rewards the player will receive as they collect every Grub in the game:

  • 5 GrubsMask Shard
  • 10 Grubs – Grubsong Charm
  • 16 GrubsRancid Egg
  • 23 Grubs – Hallownest Seal
  • 31 GrubsPale Ore
  • 38 Grubs – King's Idol
  • 46 Grubs – Grubberfly's Elegy Charm
