Housemarque says that they have not figured out how to implement saves in Returnal

Housemarque released Returnal last month with great reception from critics; however, there have been many complaints about glitches and the game crashing by players. Many people have asked for a Save Feature as well. In an interview with Axios Gaming, Housemarque’s Marketing Director stated, “We understand that there are some systems in place that are currently a hindering factor,” said Haveri. “Currently, we just don’t know exactly what it is,” he states. “So it’s very difficult to announce anything because I think there’s a lot of different people looking for different things.” a normal run in Returnal without dying can take around 4-10 hours depending on how good you are, and many people cannot manage to play for that long because of their schedule. I hope that Housemarque manage to implement a Save System and fix all of the bugs that are still causing crashes in Returnal. I do not really blame them because it is hard to find out how to implement Save System in Rogue-likes and stuff like this has to be discussed in the pre-development period so all of the developers can make the game according to that sadly, this was not the case with Returnal so the developers will have to work very hard to implement a proper save system.
