Although Skyrim is getting PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades this November, many will still be indubitably looking to the future and The Elder Scrolls 6. The re-release is yet another opportunity to play through Skyrim while waiting for the new game, as well as experience many of the races in Tamriel. However, going from Skyrim to The Elder Scrolls 6 will inevitably feature a ton of changes.
The environment of Skyrim was cold and unforgiving, with the Nord’s presence felt everywhere. As such, players can expect big changes regarding Skyrim’s Nords in The Elder Scrolls 6, as they go from a home- and honor-bound life to their more seafaring nature.

As it stands, the leading rumor for The Elder Scrolls 6’s setting is both Hammerfell and High Rock. Not only does this make sense as far as utilizing both countries, but it was seemingly teased in Starfield’s E3 trailer. It’ll be a big change for many races in Tamriel from a gameplay and roleplay perspective, but unfortunately, it seems likely to be more of the same for Argonians.
The Elder Scrolls 6 and Argonians: More of the Same
The climate and environments of Hammerfell and High Rock aren’t likely to impact Argonians, at least based on their stats in-game. Argonians are excellent at stealth, can recover health quickly, can resist disease, and can breathe underwater. As far as traits go, these are all rather universal in gameplay. Stealth in The Elder Scrolls will always be popular, being able to heal quickly is always beneficial, disease lingers everywhere, and the ability to breath underwater will still come in handy.
There’s plenty of locations in and around both Hammerfell and High Rock to go underwater, keeping this all the same. Hammerfell may make that aspect a bit tougher, but it’s not exactly like it’s the most important gameplay mechanic likely to appear in the game.
Gameplay will likely remain rather neutral, but roleplaying as an Argonian is likely to remain on the negative end of the spectrum. That doesn’t mean roleplaying them is bad, but that they are outsiders wherever they go. Beast races in Tamriel, specifically the Argonians and Khajiit, aren’t really welcome anywhere outside their homelands. They are looked down on in every game, so while they are not necessarily uncommon, they are usually bandits, mercenaries, Skooma dealers, and the like. That inherent prejudice against Argonians makes for interesting RP, but it also means that anything but a major change to Tamriel locks them in this role.
The only way one of the baseline games could present the full breadth of the Argonians or Khajiit is to set a new Elder Scrolls game in Black Marsh or Elsweyr. That is unlikely to ever happen, though, due to their more alien nature in the eyes of players.
