How Quidditch Could Work in Hogwarts Legacy | Game Rant

Hogwarts Legacy may be shaping up to be the video game that fans of the wizarding world of Harry Potter have been waiting for. In the past, Harry Potter games were mainly tie-in titles that retell the events of the movies. However, Hogwarts Legacy will transport players in the late 1800s, where they will have the opportunity to create a custom character and attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

While the basic premise of Hogwarts Legacy was laid out in the announcement trailer, there is still a lot of information about the game that is currently unknown. One of which is whether Hogwarts Legacy will feature the wizard sport known as Quidditch, a staple in both the Harry Potter books and movies. Given Quidditch remains an integral part of life at Hogwarts, it is more than likely some form of it will be featured in the game, so here's how Avalanche software could implement the popular sport.

Although some Harry Potter games did feature Quidditch as a mini-game, EA also released a full-fledged game centered on the sport in 2003 called Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup. In the game, players are offered an in-depth Quidditch experience complete with all the fictional sport's rules, moves, and strategies. While it is likely that Quidditch won't be a central feature in Hogwarts Legacy, it would be nice for the game to allow players to experience how to play Quidditch without it being a watered-down version of the sport.

Similar to Quidditch World Cup, Hogwarts Legacy should include all the official rules of the sport. However, those who have played Quidditch World Cup would know that in the game, players mainly control the Chasers, who are assigned to chase the Quaffle and shoot it through the goal hoops past the Keeper. Given that Hogwarts Legacy is being marketed as an open-world game, it should allow players to choose whichever position they want to be in a Quidditch team, whether a Chaser, a Keeper, a Beater, or a Seeker. It remains unclear whether Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy will be the same one fans of Harry Potter are familiar with, but the rules of Quidditch as fans know them today were finalized in 1883.

While details about the primary campaign of Hogwarts Legacy are still being kept under wraps, Avalanche Software made it clear that the game will be a single-player experience. However, while it isn't a bad thing for the game's main campaign to be single-player, some elements could bode well for a separate multiplayer mode, one of which might be Quidditch.

A full-fledged multiplayer Quidditch mode would allow players to take a break from the primary campaign and play the magical sport online with their friends. This would also introduce a competitive aspect in Hogwarts Legacy, especially if players can form teams and compete in various online matches. Not only will it allow players to have something else to do apart from completing quests in the main campaign, but it will also deepen their immersion in the wizarding world, especially since Quidditch is interwoven in the community.

In the end, it remains to be seen just how deep Avalanche Software is planning to integrate Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy, or if it will even feature the sport at all. However, given sports has always been a big part of academic life, whether in the wizarding world or the muggle community, it is more than likely some form of Quidditch will be present in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy aims to release in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
