Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ huge 2.0 update is here, and one of the most eagerly awaited additions is that of Brewster and his The Roost cafe. Brewster’s cafe won’t immediately open up as soon as you load up the game for the first time, though. No, you have to go on a little quest to find and then invite him to your island.
How to invite Brewster to your island
The first step in inviting Brewster to your island is to go and talk to Blathers at the Museum. Most importantly, you will want to do this before you go on your first voyage to a mystery island with Kapp’n, for reasons that we’ll get to in just a moment.
Talk to Blathers before you go on a Kapp’n boat trip!
Blathers will tell you that he wants to drive up the engagement with the museum, to open up a cafe run by Brewster, but that our favourite pigeon barista has gone completely missing! Alongside giving you a photo of Brewster so you can ID him, he’ll also give you the clue that Brewster is absolutely obsessed with Gyroids.
Basically, what he’s saying is that you need to go on a mystery island tour with Kapp’n. The first sea-crossing trip that you go on after talking to Blathers will take you to an island that is guaranteed to feature Brewster. Since you can only go on one trip per day, this is why you’ll want to talk to Blathers first.
You’ll find Brewster on a Kapp’n mystery island.
Simply run around the island and you’ll spot Brewster ambling around. Speak to him and pick various dialogue options, such as “Blathers sent me to…” and “Do you know a Brewster?” and he’ll quickly get the hint that you want him on your island. You don’t need to be fussy about your choices, just pick whatever dialogue you think fits.
Brewster will also give you a Gyroid Fragment and hints at how to restore them back to their quirky old selves.
After returning to your home island, you need to go and talk to Blathers again, informing him that you’ve found Brewster and that he’s coming along soon. Blathers will get all in a tizzy and state that he needs to shut the Museum for renovations. These will shut the Museum for your next full day in the game, and reopen the day after with The Roost.
The Roost café will open after the museum has been closed for one full day.
What can you do in The Roost?
We’re patiently waiting for The Roost to open on our island (because we’re good people who don’t time skip), but we do know that The Roost is a pretty chill hang out on the top floor of the museum. You can grab a cup of coffee with Brewster for 200 Bells once per day, and must drink it hot in order to not offend the touchy pigeon.
In the café you might spot other island residents taking a break and be able to interact with them, but perhaps the best feature is that you can use a telephone with amiibo and amiibo cards in order to summon visitors. This will let you free Sabel from slaving away at the sewing machine, and we’ve also seen people use this feature to invite Isabelle’s brother Digby to visit your island, a character that is otherwise not in the game.
