Iconic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Scene Looks Even Better With Mods

With the leaked remasters of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas appearing to be the horizon, including the rest of the classic Sixth generation sequels, it seems that fans truly cannot get enough of the action-crime games that set the bar for what would become one of the biggest game franchises in the world. With the news that the release of the GTA Remastered Trilogy may be later than expected, in the meantime, one modder has taken it in their own hands to visually re-imagine one of the series' most iconic scenes.

Considered by many reviewers to be one of the greatest video games ever made, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas follows former gangster Carl "CJ" Johnson, who returns home after the death of his mother and is drawn back into his former gang and a life of crime while clashing with corrupt authorities and rival criminal syndicates. With over 27.5 million copies sold worldwide as of 2011, it is still played by millions of gamers to this day who revel in the gripping story told through diverse missions and side quests.

From gut-wrenching betrayals to gut-busting subplots, the story of San Andreas is filled with many iconic missions. However, one cutscene, in particular, has not left the mind of gamers since it debuted in 2004. Originally a throwaway gag at the beginning of the mission "Drive-Thru," Carl Johnson proceeds to a Cluckin' Bell fast-food restaurant with his fellow gang member Big Smoke, who orders an overwhelmingly long list of items. But what makes this moment such a significant part of gaming is the countless memes, parodies, and now, a total visual remaster that skyrockets the scene into the next generation age.

Reddit user The Dear Leader achieved this impressive remaster by applying over one hundred mods, including several graphical upgrades, car and weapon skin improvements, plus many more slight additions that help breathe newfound life into San Andreas' iconic scene. The updates now help the scene rival the visuals of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 5.

Investigating closer reveals that the stunning Grand Theft Auto remaster also enhances a variety of tiny visuals, mainly the environment itself. The background vegetation, clouds, roads, and other various effects are given beautiful attention to detail.

In the forefront, CJ and the Grove Street family have received an entire cosmetic makeover. Gone are the hard edges and pixelated complexions, in come the texture upgrades that add an innovative depth of life to their expressions. Finally, the modern lighting transforms the entire scene into a far cry from what was present in the original Grand Theft Auto.

The release date of the official Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Remasters is still very much unknown, with the same being the case for the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6. Yet the opportunity to experience unique interpretations of the original third-person games will no doubt keep fans occupied for the time being.

Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy is rumored to be in development for various platforms.
