Identify These 13 Military FPS Titles From Their In-Game Screenshots

A

If you've been in the video game trenches for the past ten years, you might have noticed that there are a fair amount of military shooters these days. You can't look at the upcoming game releases without seeing someone with their boots on the ground, dudes screaming "oorah", or war crimes being rewritten to make Americans look less bad. Military shooters have infected triple-A video games like nationalism.

Don't get me wrong, I like a good shooter as much as the next person, but it's a bit much isn't it? Not only are there so many of them, but many of them are indistinguishable from one another. I'm looking forward to Battlefield 2042, but that's because Battlefield 2042 has tornados. I'm a simple man.

Ubisoft is announcing a new Tom Clancy game today and it isn't Splinter Cell – it's seemingly another military FPS, but one set in The Division's world. Instead of pressing against cover and shooting AI in third-person, you're running around in first-person and shooting other players. If you were shown it out of context, you'd probably think it was this year's Call of Duty. This got me thinking, would I even be able to tell military shooters apart if I saw out-of-context screenshots of them? Would you? Let's find out.

Game A

Here's Game A. Any idea what it is? Me neither.

Game B

OK, this one is a bit easier because of the game's popularity. But admit it, you only know because of the UI, don't you?

Game C

This could literally be anything, couldn't it? If you know what this is, you're lying.

Game D

The city setting might give this one away.

Game E

Admittedly, if I'd shown what was behind the character, this one would have been much easier.

Game F

As far as military FPS games go, at least this one feels unlike any others to play.

Game G

This one might be the blandest and most recognisable of the bunch. Impressive.

Game H

I'm glad I labelled these as I went because what even is this?

Game I

Gun Man walking around with a gun.

Game J

It's not looking good for those guys, but do you recognise them?

Game K

You might not have even played this before, but you still have played it.

Game L

Could be the same game as above, but it's not.

Game M

Looks like quite a chilly battle, this. A cold war, even.

I could have filled this out with more by just including every game from each series, but I'm honestly already bored out of my nut from looking at near-identical screens now. At least we still have Doom Eternal, Deathloop, Wolfenstein, and indie shooters.
