Idris Elba Will Voice Knuckles In Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Big news for Sonic fans. Not only is Knuckles confirmed to be in the coming sequel, but now we know who will play the beefy echidna's voice. Idris Elba, award-winning actor and star of the recently released The Suicide Squad, will take up the role of Knuckles in the upcoming film.

This comes straight from Idris Elba himself who tweeted two words earlier today along with the "#SonicMovie2" and "#Knuckles'' hashtags. If that wasn't clear enough, there was the unmistakable image of Knuckles' spiked fist posted up beneath. And if that wasn't enough, Geoff Keighley confirmed the news not a few moments later.

Production on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 began last March with Knuckles confirmed as one of the sequel's new characters last April. A Knuckles prop appeared on several photos from the production set, confirming not only the echidna's presence but also giving us a good idea of what Knuckles will look like.

In May, a copyright pre-registration document may have leaked the movie's plot. According to the doc, Knuckles will pair up with Dr Robotnik as the movie's villains, a story that shares a lot with Knuckles' first appearance in the video game Sonic The Hedgehog 3. The two are searching for an emerald of immense power, and it's up to Sonic and sidekick Tails to stop him.

With Idris Elba confirmed as Knuckles, that just leaves the voice of Tails. Here’s hoping we get a not-so-subtle tweet from Michelle Rodriguez in the near future.

In other Sonic news, that new Sonic game that was previewed during the recent Sega event might have been a little "premature", according to Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. We haven't heard anything about the game since then because it's still very much in early development and subject to change, unlike the movie which is dropping bombs every month it seems.
