The Steam Next Festival has been a veritable treasure trove of free demos for indie titles of all sizes, from the post-apocalyptic city-builder Terra Nil to the open-world adventure Sable. However, one of the big winners from the event was Razor Edges Games’ indie RPG title Eden Falling, which ended the Steam Next Fest with nearly 4,000 downloads.

In Eden Falling, you’ll play as a survivor of an apocalyptic meteor impact that brought with it a highly infectious, mutating disease. However, you won’t be journeying into the wastes alone – you can play online with friends, or encounter strangers on Razor Edge’s online servers. Alone or together, you’ll encounter plenty of unique and interesting locations and dilemmas – there are seven factions of survivors on the new Earth, each with their own distinct culture and goals, who’ll be vying for your help in protecting their people from the feral mutants that roam the wastes.

A core mantra of Eden falling’s game design is ‘choices matter’ – along your journey you’ll be asked questions and given decisions that will change the world around you, giving Eden Falling a unique landscape each time you play through it. A wide selection of linear quests are available, which also change the world depending on which you decide to follow. Your choices won’t only affect your journey, though – you’ll be able to have children in Eden Falling, who can be taught the skills you’ve learned as a new generation ventures forth into the wilds.

Following the week-long availability of Eden Falling’s demo in the Steam Next Fest, two gameplay streams and a developer Q&A panel, Razor Edge games have accrued plenty of feedback that they’re currently working on implementing into the game. They’re planning more developer-hosted stream events over the next couple of months to show their progress in the lead-up to Eden Falling’s closed Alpha period.

Eden Falling hasn’t had an official release date announced quite yet, but there’s sure to be an update on its development at the upcoming developer streams.
